Dear Parents and Educators,
During this season of gratitude, we want to take a moment to reflect on our 18 years together. The Common Ground
community is strong, resilient and vibrant and has been so since the very beginning.
As we navigate the joys and challenges of parenting, it is heartwarming to know that we are all in this together. Let’s continue to grow, learn and most importantly, let's look up so that the world doesn’t pass us by. By looking up, we might make a new friend, realize that a colleague needs help or catch a smile we might otherwise have missed. And by looking up, we are certain to be filled with awe and appreciation for the world around us…and each other. The recent
New York Times
article
“Why Gratitude Is Wasted on Thanksgiving”
provides a timely reminder of the positive effects that gratitude can bring every day.
For our next event, please join us in welcoming
Lisa Damour
to the stage
as she sheds light on
how to support our daughters
as they face increasing pressure, stress and anxiety. She will be at The Nueva School in the morning and Sacred Heart Preparatory in the evening on
Tuesday, December 10
. In the spirit of holiday giving, we have included
donation drives
as part of both events. See below for more details and to RSVP.
And if you need a holiday gift idea,
Grown & Flown
suggests that
A Mother-Daughter Trip Is Good For Your Health!
We can't imagine a better way to confront the stress and anxiety our girls are experiencing. Of course, we don’t want to leave out fathers so please consider a Father/Daughter trip as well, which can be just as rewarding (and healthy).
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends!
Warm regards,
The Common Ground Leadership Team

Confronting Stress and Anxiety in Girls
|
|
Join clinical psychologist,
Lisa Damour, PhD
, for an invaluable examination of the complex stressors that girls face today – in school, online, with their peers, and at home.
Drawing from her latest best-selling book,
Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls
, Damour emphasizes the reassuring and surprising benefits that everyday stress and anxiety can bring to personal growth, confidence and the development of protective instincts in girls. She guides parents in how to help our daughters capably navigate through the tensions and stressors in their daily lives.
Damour also recognizes that girls today are confronting a rising tide of unhealthy stress. She
validates parents' concerns that when our daughters experience pressure in so many areas of their lives, it can lead to emotional overload. She
will share some critical steps parents can take to both shield and fortify our daughters against the more toxic pressures our culture places specifically on girls.
