The Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions Meets Real Needs in Real Time
The Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions will look different in the coming year, reflecting the changing world in which we live as we face the challenges of a global pandemic.

As always, this critical offering seeks to meet real needs of real people by funding ministries in a variety of specific areas. For the rest of 2020 and looking toward 2021, the allocations of this offering are being redirected in a way that will allow us to focus on human needs arising from the COVID-19 crisis:

  • 70% of funds to WMUV-directed projects related to camp scholarships, mental health/domestic violence, and outreach missions ministries

  • 30% of funds to BGAV-directed projects related to church planter financial relief, church Child Development Center scholarships, church hotspots for student internet access, and international partners

  • All projects have a direct correlation to COVID-19 relief efforts

Funds will be distributed monthly and will begin in Summer 2020 in order to respond more quickly to immediate needs. View anticipated allocation projects for this year.

Some basic promotional materials will be mailed out to churches in the coming weeks. You can also view stories, download resources, and donate online at AlmaHunt.org !
Because of the time-sensitive nature of many of these critical needs and the plan to distribute funds monthly, we ask that you consider sending your offerings as early as possible this year.
Healthy Pastors, Healthy Churches Webinar
June 30, 2020 - 11:00 a.m. EDT

In the past three months, churches have faced an unprecedented season of uncertainty and stress. Pastors and staff members have pivoted quickly in order to respond to the changes in their communities brought on by multiple crises: the spread of COVID-19, illnesses and loss of lives due to the coronavirus, racial tension, the national political divide during this election year, financial pressures, and re-gathering considerations in addition to the typical daily issues they face during “normal” times.

Join Dan Bagby and Roberta Damon, longtime experts in the field of pastoral care, as they lead us to understand and address the enormous pressure that many pastors and church staff members are currently struggling with while they do their best to care for their congregations. Their approach will include helpful advice for pastors and church members. There will be a question-and-answer time to engage participants.

Please note that this webinar will not be recorded for future viewing.

Favorite Scriptures from the BGAV Staff Family

This summer, every issue of Advance Notice will feature a favorite scripture verse or passage submitted by a member of the BGAV staff. We hope these scriptures will inspire you in your daily walk with Christ and also help you get to know our staff a little better.
Philippians 1:6, New International Version (NIV)
…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

"This has been my favorite for about three decades now. It reminds me of the source of my confidence, the rest in the fact that God is the one who does the work, and that God’s faithful ability to be a completer carries and sustains me through the long haul." - Darrell Cook

Darrell Cook is Baptist Collegiate Minister at Virginia Tech. He has served with BGAV since 1998.
