Cardinals Corner | Edition # 21| February 4, 2021
A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL DRABEK

Dear Families,

This week every year, we celebrate Catholic Schools Week. The celebration is intended to highlight all the amazing things about Catholic Schools and all the benefits of choosing private school when you have many options.

If you are new to St. Rose of Lima this year, or if you have sent your child here for the last 8 years (you may have heard me say this before), I want to share with you: I know what a sacrifice it is to send your child to Catholic school. Your commitment to their education does not go unnoticed.  Growing up, my own parents made the commitment to send all their children (8) to St. Rose of Lima, citing the long term benefits as their motivation.

Catholic Schools are special because they seek to emphasize moral development and self-discipline, provide a safe and nurturing environment, and collaborate with families in faith formation.  Catholic Schools are about personal connection and community service.

Speaking about the legacy of Catholic Schools, at the 6th Annual St. Rose of Lima Gala we distribute 3 honors each year – the Distinguished Community Partner of the Year, Distinguished Alumni of the Year, and a Distinguished Volunteer of the Year. These individuals are selected based on their support of St. Rose of Lima, past and present, and the indelible mark they have left on this community.

Congratulations to our 2021 Gala Honorees:

Distinguished Community Partner of the Year 2021: MD Anderson
Distinguished Alumni of the Year 2021: Josh Marek, Class of ‘94
Distinguished Volunteer of the Year 2021: Billy Blaize

We are thankful to these honorees and will treasure their presence and partnership this year, and for many years to come. In case you missed it, there are still a few more items available for purchase, including:

Free Dress Fridays in February! ($25/Student)

Gonfalon Gift
Stewardship? Creativity? Bravery? Wisdom? Truth? We are raising money for them all! Gonfalons are a physical representation of the celebration of achievement. Each House is hoping to have their own "gonfalon" to represent their House. If you would like to contribute to this endeavor, please contact us.

Pie with the Principals (By Pod) ($50/Student)
Students will enjoy a pizza lunch on the lawn, coupled with the added joy of “pie-ing” myself or Mrs. Tellier (I vote Mrs. Tellier!) in the face.

If you are interested in participating in any of these initiatives, please check in with the front office.

Finally, we wrap up Catholic Schools Week tomorrow with Red & White Out Day! Let's Go Cardinals!

Yours in Service,

Bernadette Lombardo Drabek, M. Ed.

A NOTE FROM THE SCHOOL ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Did You Know...

The new building is almost complete and ready for our students to begin learning there! Once the certificate of occupancy is received, the move in of furniture will commence. The expectation is to have all K-8 students in the new building by the end of March. The entire space, design and construction was well thought out by an incredible team. It is bright, beautifully constructed and outfitted with the newest technologies. Hospital grade laminate which is hygienic, long-lasting and easy to maintain has been chosen and installed throughout the building to cut down on germ transfer. Sound clouds can be seen within the space to cut down on noise. Kinder will have it’s own pod on the first floor adjacent to the 1st and 2nd grade pods. 3rd to 5th grade pods will be located upstairs adjacent to the Middle School wing. Each pod will have access to a breakout space outside their main room to allow for grouped activities in a more open, yet private space. The K-5 library is complete with a performance stage and concert style seating. The art room is loaded with storage and multiple areas to display students creations. The music room includes a private practice room. Middle School will have will have their own wing, library and science lab which all together consumes the largest amount of square footage in the building.

Speaking of Middle School...4th and 5th grade families PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT for an invitation to a virtual tour and introduction to SRL Middle School. Meet the teachers, learn more about the curriculum, electives, clubs, get a sneak peak of the MS only areas in the new building and ask all your questions.

What a blessing this growth and construction has been for our SRL community.

It’s a good time to be a CARDINAL!! GO BIG RED!!
