Alison Silvestri Honored as Teacher of the Month
Alison Silvestri (High School) was recognized In November by the Long Island Nets as the Long Island Teacher of the Month. "It is a great honor and I feel very proud to be recognized for my efforts," she said.  The Long Island Nets recognizes a teachers based on their excellence in the classroom, commitment to education and the community, leadership abilities, and dedication to students.

This free conference is designed to acquaint members in the early stage of their careers with the vast array of professional and personal services NYSUT union membership provides. The conference features a menu of eight workshops. When you register you will be asked to select a total of 5 workshops. All featured workshops address issues of interest and concern to early career members.

*Individuals wishing to register after that date must contact their respective Regional Office. If space permits we will accept late registrants, but they will not be guaranteed a seat in all of the workshops of their choice.

**Student Debt Clinic is a double period workshop. If you choose to attend you may attend a total of four workshops.
Albert Shanker Grant Program
The Albert Shanker grant was established to defray the costs of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)* certification to eligible New York State public school teachers. The New York State Education Department through the Albert Shanker Grant makes funding available to support eligible New York State public school teachers seeking their first National Board Certification.

Starting on July 1, 2019, the New York State Education Department will accept applications for the 2019-2020 Albert Shanker Grant program. Applications will continue to be accepted through February 28, 2020 or until all funds are exhausted, whichever is first.

Virtual Food Drive for Island Harvest
Thank you to all who donated to HCT's first Virtual Food Drive for Island Harvest. We raised $651 for this worthy organization. According to its website, every $1 donation can provide two meals to hungry families on Long Island. Congratulations on a great fundraiser and thank you for your generosity!
