SHARE:
Week of August 30 to September 5, 2020
As we seek to continue to keep connected as a church family, below you will find several ways to participate in worship, prayer, and service with others from HBIC. We invite you to join us in any of these various ways this week!

There's also some important information in this week's e-mail, so be sure to scroll the whole way through!

We continue to pray that you will experience the riches of the Lord's presence during this time in which many of us are not able to be present with one another!
-- HBIC Pastoral Staff
ONLINE WORSHIP

Our pastoral staff are working together each week to record a worship service for our church family.

The service will be available on the HBIC YouTube Channel on Sunday mornings by 9 am, as well as anytime thereafter. This pre-recorded, online service is available in addition to the in-person worship services at Lingle Park.
WORSHIP SERVICE LIVESTREAM

We are live-streaming both the 9 and 11 am in-person services, giving one more worship service option for those who are not able to join us at the park. If all works well, you'll be able to link to either of the live-stream services on our HBIC YouTube Channel (youtube.com/c/HarrisburgBICChurch) at the time of the service, or you'll be able to watch the recording of the livestream anytime.
WORSHIP-AT-HOME RESOURCES

The Worship-At-Home Resource Page serves as a companion to the weekly worship video on the HBIC YouTube Channel and includes the song lyrics, the sermon scripture, reflection questions, plus some links for children. ...If you have more than one device and you'd like to see the lyrics to sing along, or have the sermon scripture handy to read along, you can have the video playing on one device while you follow along with the worship resource on the other!

May you experience the blessing of God
as you worship this week!
CHILDREN'S MESSAGE FOR AUGUST 30

Each week, we've been including a children's message in the service recording which the staff do from the sanctuary. Rather than including it there, this week we are sharing it as a stand-alone link - you can click here to view this week's children's message by Brandon Hoover. (If this separate link is helpful, be sure to let Pastor Patty know.)
If you've registered for one of the worship services at Lingle Park tomorrow, 9 am and 11 am, please look for an email with a few last minute details and reminders.

If you have any questions between today and tomorrow morning (before 8:00 am), feel free to contact Pastor Hank or Pastor Lynda.

...And if you still need to register for one of the August 30th services, click here for 9 am, or click here for 11 am.

(Note: This will be Pastor Esteban's last Sunday as our Pastor of Worship Ministries. In addition to the love gift which will be presented from the congregation, we will have a basket at the sign-in table for cards and notes of encouragement.)
PRAY FOR THOSE WHO MOURN...

In recent weeks, Joyce Muniz lost a brother, a sister, and a nephew, all from cancer. Continue to pray for Joyce and her family as they grieve many difficult losses this year.

Della Taylor lost a cousin here in Harrisburg this past week due to Covid-19. Pray for Della and her family as they grieve.
Since we do not have a weekly worship service bulletin during this time, we are including a Schedule for the Week in this weekly email.

The following will be taking place during the week of August 30 to September 5:

  • Sunday, 9 am - On-Line Worship Service (HBIC YouTube Channel)
  • Sunday, 9 am and 11 am - Worship Services (Lingle Park)
  • Sunday, 9 am and 11 am - Worship Service Livestream (HBIC YouTube Channel)
  • Monday to Friday, 8 am - HBIC Community Classroom (Sanctuary)

COMMUNITY CLASSROOM

Beginning Monday, August 31, our church will be hosting one of the Community Classrooms in order to help provide a half-day safe learning space for elementary students with working parents. Volunteers are needed Mondays to Fridays (except school holidays) between 8 am and 12:30 pm. We are working on scheduling August 31 through October 2. If you'd like to volunteer for any of the needed days, click here. And if you have questions, contact Pastor Carmen or Pastor Patty.
6TH GRADE
ICE CREAM SOCIAL!

All HBIC youth entering 6th grade this school year are invited to an Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, September 2nd, 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

We will meet in HBIC's fenced-in lot. Parents, please join us as well, as Pastor Brie will have a brief meeting for you along with the ice cream! Look for an email from Pastor Brie with more details. If you have any questions, contact Pastor Brie.
MISSION OF MERCY

Mission of Mercy's Mobile Medical Clinic will be returning to Harrisburg this week, Thursday, September 3! Pray for their staff and volunteers as they use our CE Room and parking area to minister to people in need of medical care. ...And if you might consider being one of their volunteers, contact Pastor Carmen.
SEPTEMBER 6TH SERVICES

Each week, the opening page of our church's website, HBIC.church, has all of the information about our Sunday morning worship services at Lingle Park - our protocols for meeting together, as well as the registration links for both the 9 am and the 11 am services! (Check it out by clicking HBIC.church above.)

Please be sure to register by Saturday in order to help the staff to prepare the check-in list, etc. If you have any questions about our outdoor services, contact Pastor Hank or Pastor Lynda. We look forward to seeing you there if you can join us at Lingle Park!

Note: Just to give you a heads up a week in advance, on Sunday, September 13, we will be sharing communion together at Lingle Park (pre-packaged individual communion juice/bread.) We haven't shared in-person communion since February - we're looking forward to sharing in the elements together with those who can join us!
PRAYER MEETING
TO RESUME

All are invited to join us for a Virtual Prayer Meeting on Wednesday evenings on Zoom, 7 pm.

We'll be starting back up on Wednesday, September 9th. We hope to see you at this special gathering to pray for one another, our church, community, and world! Watch for the link next week...
CREATION KIDS ON ZOOM

Pastor Patty and some of our children's ministry volunteers are looking forward to hanging out with your children on Zoom, Monday and Thursday afternoons at 4 pm, catching up with one another, playing some games, and praying together. Thursday, September 10 will be the start date for these times of connection for kids. Contact Pastor Patty for the link that your child will need.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL PRAYER

As we look to the fall, the Prayer Ministry Team would like to encourage you to join in new ways of praying together and apart...

On Saturday, September 12, you are encouraged to prayer walk around your local school facilities. We are setting 10:30 am as a time to go to your local school (or where your children, grandchildren, or friends attend) to pray for this school year and the many schools as they navigate new ways of teaching and learning - some schools are meeting in person, some are teaching online classes, and some families are doing a variety of homeschooling options as well. If you cannot pray at this time, feel free to pray at another day/time. Our goal is to engage 100 families or individuals at many different schools. Please consider praying whether or not you have children in school.

Do not be intimidated if you have never "prayer walked" before. Just walk around and pray quietly or conversationally for the needs God brings to mind as you walk. Here are some suggestions to pray for:
  • administrators as they make decisions
  • teachers and staff as they interact with students
  • students as they face different situations than they may be used to
  • God to protect and bless the schools
  • teachers and students to reflect Jesus and bring hope in the midst of fearful situations
  • God to keep COVID from reaching the schools
  • students, teachers, and administrators to be drawn to Jesus as they face difficult situations
  • all students to have access to good education
  • our church and other community spaces that will be offering temporary places for students who don't have a physical place to learn.

We ask that you would let the Prayer Ministry Team know if you are praying (send either a picture from your prayer walk or an e-mail to Lanette Johnson or to Pastor Hank). Let's support our community by lifting up our schools! As we pray, may students and teachers set an example...in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. (1 Timothy 4:12 and 6:11)
ATTENTION ALL YOUTH!

Don't miss this! Saturday evening, September 12th, 5 to 8 pm, the youth will have a fun Beginning of the Year Bash!

Watch your email for all of the details. Contact Pastor Brie for more information.
IN-PERSON YOUTH GROUP

Beginning September 13th, our youth will be having in-person youth group at Lingle Park on Sundays from 4-5:30pm, combined for both Jr and Sr High. These outdoor gatherings will take place through October. Contact Pastor Brie for more info!

DO WE STILL NEED
YOUR PHOTO?

We are working on an update to the church directory, which we'd like to roll out this fall.

Over the years, many people have shared that they'd be helped by having pictures in our church directory. So we are putting out a request... If you haven't done so yet, please send a recent photo of you or your family (preferably in color; black & white also accepted) to Pastor Brie or Pastor Lynda by Sunday, September 13. We'll use these in-house, in both a printed version and a pdf version of our HBIC Church Directory. Thanks for your help!

New Addition! If you'd be helped by having someone take a picture of you, Rick and Deb Souder have offered to do so at the Lingle Park Sunday services. Let Pastor Lynda know if you are interested.
