Tick Check!
There's nothing that makes your skin crawl more than discovering a tick on your body.  Before you know it your brain turns every wind blown arm hair into confirmation of yet another creepy crawly!  I had that feeling yesterday as I watched one crawl across my lap as I was driving back from hunting camp in the northeast corner of the state and it made me so happy!

It sort of shocked me back to life as one of those things that happens when you get out and explore.  You might take a truck hitch to the shin, or walk face first into a glass door or, especially in the north woods, get a tick or two on you.  It's all part of living and just about everyone I know is ready to do some more of that.   If you're not finding a tick on yourself every now and then, you're not living right.  I'll gladly spend the next few days quickly swatting at bugs that aren't really there because we're back, baby!

If you've been locked up for a while, it's time to get out and explore.  We're showing property to real live people again (with a number of reasonable precautions) and we could not be more excited to help you find your next great property.  When you do head out I recommend hitting up your boots and clothes with some high quality, high deet bug spray and make sure you're travelling with someone you're real close with in case there needs to be a tick check moment...

Favorite Places and Spaces

When asked to write about my favorite place and why it's my favorite, I really had to stop and think about that. There are so many different places that are worthy of being a favorite for me.

One trip I took back in December of 2019 was to Detroit. Me and my family rented a house and stayed the weekend and took in the many historical sites that Detroit has to offer. We went to a Red Wings game and watched them break a 12 game losing streak! That was fun to be a part of; the rink was rocking! We also spent a day downtown, skating on the outdoor rink located in Campus Martius Park in the heart of the city. If you have never experienced skating in the winter with skyscrapers around you, it's a different type of feeling and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.

The one historic place that I find myself migrating to the most is the home of Edsel and Eleanor Ford in Grosse Pointe Shores. This mansion is an unbelievable site that throws you back in time to when there were proper parties, many attended by US presidents and people of influence, dignitaries from around the world.

It's almost as if you can hear the conversations of business and industry that take place. The women would retire to one room, the men another. Dinners were done by candlelight, no electricity in the dining room, that's the way Eleanor Ford wanted it. Tables were set with fashion and evening attire was required. The children sat at one table, the adults at another. The children were also required to dress up for dinner and display proper manners at all time.

This type of event seems like something from a bygone era. Today our lives are so busy with sports, two parents working outside the home, and kids spending more time inside the house than outside. It's a time gone by that we could use a little more of in this day and age.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR SOMETHING UNIQUE? Here it is! This is a spectacular property on the outskirts of Grayling.  Situated on 18.31 acres with state land on 3 sides, this sprawling cabin/home features over 2,900 finished square feet - the
rustic flair will knock your socks off.

The main cabin features a 24x40 great room complete with bar area, great for  entertaining. Large utility room with commercial grade sinks, washer/dryer too. Large kitchen with rustic cabinetry, all the  appliances are staying with the home. Living room off the kitchen with large windows overlooking the large pond in the
backyard. Large main floor bedroom and bathroom. An additional bedroom upstairs, plus a sleeping loft up the ladder off the  kitchen.

Wait, that's not all...three season porch plus a covered porch off the back of the house. Two 14x14 Bunk House cabins  to the side, complete with half baths and decks. Deer cleaning station over the artesian well, which flows approximately 35  gallons a minute. Just wait until you taste that water! Exterior bathhouse and storage pavilion. Plus another covered pavilion  overlooking the pond.

This property is located off the grid in an area that offers peace and tranquility and wildlife galore.  Electric is provided by propane lights, solar panels and whole house generators. Sprinkler system, nice landscaping,  workshop shed/garage up front that house the generators. Elevated wood deck housing the solar panels give you an  awesome panoramic view of the property and pond. This would make a great family retreat/compound!

May in Michigan means morel mushrooms, and these tasty mycelia can be aggravatingly difficult to locate. Many people seem to have their 'spots', and guard their whereabouts like fishing honey holes. Meat Eater has a pretty comprehensive guide if you need to brush up on your spotting skills. Check it out here.

There's an App for That!

This app has been a fun way to stay connected to friends and family while we are apart. It's a face-to-face social network, but with the added bonus of games like trivia and a Pictionary knock-off that everyone can play together. Good times! Versions are available for iOS, Android, Mac, and Chrome. Find downloads and start partying here.
