Year-End Giving
York Catholic Fund
As 2019 wraps up and we embark on this new year, we reflect back on the generous alumni, parents, and community friends like yourselves who have continued to support our school for over 90 years. It is bec ause of our York Catholic family that this past year we have been stronger than ever.

We know there are many choices for your charitable giving and we ask you to prayerfully consider the annual York Catholic Fund for your year-end gifts as each and every dollar truly impacts our school and students.

The YC Fund not only supports every student by enriching extra-curricular programs and music and the arts, but also provides professional development for teachers, academic program support, athletic programs, technology, special projects, and covers operating expenditures. This year, we have a fundraising goal of $300,000 by June 30, 2020.

Community Drives
Giving Tree
The senior high student council is collecting NEW hats, scarves, and mittens for those in need in our community. Items can be placed on the Giving Tree in the lobby at York Catholic until
December 18.

Coat Drive
The National Honor Society is collecting gently used coats for their Coat Drive. A collection box will be in the lobby until  December 18 . The coats will be donated to the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry.

Toy Drive
Students are currently collecting Christmas presents for the children who are patients at Hershey Medical Center, in remembrance of Jacob Gurreri. Parents of the children at Hershey will be able to choose some gifts and have them "delivered" on Christmas Eve.

Chris Gurreri, a YC graduate, is coordinating this toy drive in memory of his brother Jacob, who was five-years-old when he died. This is the 14th year anniversary of his death.  The Gurreri family was fortunate enough to stay in the Ronald McDonald House during the three weeks that Jacob was being treated at Hershey Medical Center.

The Ronald McDonald House offers the following gift ideas (MUST be new, unwrapped, items in original box):
  • Stuffed animals
  • Coloring books and crayons/markers
  • Books
  • Board games
  • Children's movies
  • Action figures
  • Dolls
  • Legos
  • Christmas stockings with stocking stuffer items
  • Blankets
Students are asked to have all toys to their homerooms by the morning of December 17 at 8:15 AM. Thank you for your generosity this holiday season in helping to make Christmas a little brighter for the children who are in the hospital.

Poetry Out Loud
Families are welcome to see and hear the York Catholic Poetry Out Loud team perform Thursday, December 19, from 3:05-4:30 PM in the Lecture Hall. Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Poetry Out Loud is a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts, Poetry Foundation, and the state and jurisdictional arts agencies.

Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has grown to reach more than 3.8 million students and 60,000 teachers from 16,000 schools in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Poetry Out Loud uses a pyramid structure that starts at the classroom level. Winners advance to a school-wide competition, then to a regional and/or state competition, and ultimately to the National Finals. Awards and placements are determined solely by the judges' scores based on the Poetry Out Loud Evaluation Criteria.

Emergency Notification
Notification
During inclement weather that would cause a school closing or delay of schedule, York Catholic will call/text/email you through our One Call Now Emergency Notification system. Other modes of notification include WGAL TV-8, WPMT Fox43, and the YC website. Students from individual school districts are automatically excused if their district closes and does not provide transportation to YCHS. The exceptions to this are Southern and Southeastern. These students follow York Catholic's delay and closing schedule.

Text Option Requires Your Action
In preparation for the colder months ahead, we have updated our "One Call Now" Emergency Notification System.  In the event our school schedule is adjusted due to weather, a phone call and an email will be sent to the contact information we have on file.

A text option is also available.  If you opted-in to receive text messages last school year, you do not need to do anything additional.  If you did not receive text messages last year and would like to, or you are new to our school, you must "opt-in" to receive text notification.

To do so, text the word ALERT to the number 22300.
Do not include any words other than the word ALERT.

After doing so, you will no longer receive a phone call at that number and will only receive a text message.

If you do not want to receive text notification, you do not have to do anything.  Your phone number and email address from our Vision system have automatically been entered into the One Call Now system.

Science Labs Construction Begins

Construction began on our new Science Labs this week!

The photo above shows the current view standing in front of the Career Room doors and looking into the library.

Demolition unveiled plumbing that serviced water fountains outside of the library and a yellow tile wall in the Guidance Office!

All services that were housed in the spaces now under construction have been temporarily relocated to other areas of the building.

We'll be updating our progress on our Facebook page and in future Irish Eye e-newsletters. Thank you for supporting our Capital Campaign!
