Dear Families,

We are listening and working hard to balance the perspectives of many who are experiencing a new way of learning and living.   There is an overload of information to read and manage, so I am going to share this week's update via the efficient bulleted list...
  • Student Belonging Pick-Up:  This process went remarkably well thanks to the volunteer staff, custodians, and parents who managed and participated in this process.  We recognize it was bittersweet for all involved.
  • Governor Pritzker Releases IL Restore Plan: The plan gives guidance on the evolution of school reopening for the 2020-2021 school year based on health criteria.  As we have done since March, staff continue working to ensure both operational and instructional plans are in place that address a range of viable options -- from modified "in-person" school to more remote learning.  We will keep you informed of our planning and make sure parents have an opportunity to provide ideas, input, and considerations.  Although we look forward to when we can resume school safely, we remain committed to making plans aligned with public health guidance and best practices.
  • Importance of Family Stress Relief: Breaking the cycle of stress is important - and laughing and learning can help! The District is partnering with The Winnetka Public Schools Foundation to offer a series of virtual educational and family entertainment events. Our first two events are highlighted beneath my message below...we hope many families join us for some learning and fun!
  • All You Need is Love - Appreciation Video for our Families & Students:
While we have celebrated National Teacher Appreciation Week - we also realize that many of our parents are co-serving as teachers during remote learning.  The District staff made this video (Password: we36) for YOU to say thank you and miss you!
Finally, I would like to say Happy Mother's Day to the mothers, aunts, grandmothers, and mother figures in our school community. We recognize the incredible ways you nurture children each day, thereby benefiting our entire community. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Dr. Trisha Kocanda
Superintendent
