Attempt to Weaken Dignity Fund Halted (For Now)
advocates in front of supervisors chambers
The Board of Supervisors proposed changing the level of funding that would go to the Dignity Fund and other set-asides. The Dignity Fund Coalition mobilized to successfully block efforts to weaken the Dignity Fund and other set-asides at the January 17 and 24 meetings of the Board of Supervisors Rules Committee. However, the legislative sponsors Supervisor Aaron Peskin and Katy Tang only agreed to postpone discussion and action until the November ballot.

Our next step is to develop a community strategy for this challenge, as well as the 2018-19 budget year. Join us at the next Dignity Fund Coalition meeting on Wednesday, January 31  from 2:30 - 4:30 PM at 825 Howard Street.  To make sure you get the latest updates on the Dignity Fund, please join the DFC email list.

While everyone has "the right to be rescued" in an urban area, first responders and other emergency personnel will be overwhelmed in a major emergency. This workshop emphasized the importance for people with disabilities to be prepared, to develop their own personal support team, and to be ready to create their own path to safety.
CLC sponsored the workshop on emergency preparedness for people with disabilities, along with the FDR Democratic Club, the Lighthouse, and the Independent Living Resource Center featuring speakers in the room and via Skype.
