Process Adjustments and Decision Times

As the 2020-21 academic year approaches, students are registering with the eligibility center in numbers exceeding past years. This is an exciting trend as we head into the fall semester.

To ensure we get the right students on the field at the right time, we are making the following process adjustments to increase efficiency and prepare for a potentially higher registrant peak:
  • Reduce the percentage of students who are selected for random quality control checks.
  • Simplify the documentation related to requests for review of an eligibility center decisions, resulting in a quicker turnaround of those cases.
  • Increase internal cross-training to ensure flexibility of the center's staffing needs.
  • Rely on student-provided information if league representatives do not respond within five business days.
This approach has been approved by the competitive experience committee, provided the center takes precautionary measures including: notifying the school of this process, including a custom note on the student's decision noting information was provided by the student, and using very clear language to ask questions to ensure full understanding.

Despite these efforts, we are still anticipating a delay outside of our standard processing targets during the peak in August. You can help support student-athletes who need eligibility center decisions by continuing to encourage them to register and engage with the center as early as possible. Students' activity lists on PlayNAIA are the best place for up-to-date information about their status and outstanding action items. Students who take action earlier in the summer will greatly impact their ability to gain an eligibility decision without delay to the start of the fall term.

Additionally, please notify the center a t [email protected]  of any of your recruits who qualify for the COVID-19 entering freshmen exception with the following information. Once we receive this information, our team will update the students profile to apply the exception.
  • Subject line: Covid Test Score Exception
  • In the body, please include the students full name and ECID number.
Students who have submitted a non-qualifying score and received a "not eligible" decision will have their eligibility decision updated within seven business days.

We have an excellent team in place dedicating to ensuring students are in the game this fall and beyond.  Please let our team know if you have any questions.

Best,
