Girls LeadHerShip Students Get an Exclusive Dance Lesson from 'Hamilton' Cast Member

Students in Natomas Unified’s LeadHerShip Club, located at Bannon Creek School and Natomas Middle School, had the unique opportunity to receive a dance lesson from one of the lead dancers from the Broadway Hit Musical Hamilton currently in production in Sacramento.

Dancer Alexia Sky Colon spent Wednesday afternoon with students sharing the significance of Alexander Hamilton while teaching them the moves to “My Shot,” one of the most popular songs of the play. After the dance lesson, the girls, in grades 7-8, were able to learn more about Colon, how she became a dancer, and hear about her experiences traveling with the play.

Trauma-Informed Practices
Tips, Resources and Practices in Action

NUSD is committed to building a school district community that is Trauma Informed in alignment with this year’s theme of Taking Care of Ourselves and Each Other

Over 60% of school-aged children have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACES). A trauma informed approach tells us that children do not learn unless they feel safe and connected. Making Students Feel Safe focuses on utilizing trauma informed practices to help engage students in the learning process.

For additional support and resources for students, please visit the Virtual Tutoring and Wellness Center and NUSD Social-Emotional Support Referral.
PSA Contest for National Bullying Prevention Month

Each year in October, NUSD celebrates National Bullying Prevention Month.
Last year, students designed a PSA related to bullying prevention. This year, students are again invited to submit a 60-second PSA that will help spread their messages about how each of us (individually or as a group) can prevent/end bullying in a kind, nonviolent manner. The contest will be divided into four winners: K-3, 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12. Students will have until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 11 to submit their PSA's. Winners will receive lunch of their choice from a pre-selected menu on October 22. To learn more about the contest and to watch last year's winning PSA's, click here.
