GOP Group Pumping $4.5 Million into Michigan for Senate Race Advertising
One Nation, a nonprofit organization affiliated with the GOP super PAC Senate Leadership Fund, reserved $4.5 million in television, radio time and cable advertising that began airing across Michigan on Wednesday (8/19), according to a report in Roll Call. Read More

Unlock Michigan Effort has 200K Signatures, Court Rejects Petition Challenge
Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R-16) told his supporters in an email this week that the Unlock Michigan effort to repeal the law allowing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to issue many of her COVID-19 related orders has collected 200,000 signatures so far, according to a report by Gongwer. Read More

NAB Again Urges Supreme Court To Hear Media Ownership Appeal
The Supreme Court has begun putting cases on its fall calendar but has yet to decide whether to hear the appeal over media ownership regulations and efforts continue to convince the justices to review the case, according to a report in InsideRadio. Read More

Lowest Unit Rate Window for the November Election Opens on September 4 - Thoughts on Computing Your Lowest Unit Charges to Political Candidates

With the lowest unit charge window for the November elections going into effect on September 4, just two and a half weeks from now, we thought that it was a good idea to review the basic FCC rules and policies affecting those charges. In this election, with the Presidency and control in both houses of Congress at stake as well as many state offices, and with in-person campaigning limited by the pandemic, there may have never been a time when broadcast advertising was more important to political candidates - and likely more in demand by those candidates. Read More

ABIP Inspector Will Travel Through Thumb, Northern Lower Michigan in September
The MAB has limited openings still available in our 2020  Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program, (ABIP) season. Our inspector will travel through Bay City, the Thumb Area, Ludington, Traverse City, Cadillac, Petoskey, Alpena, Chalevoix and Harrisville from September 14 to 21. Read More

C-Band Lump Sum Payment Deadline Extended to September 14
For stations exploring the issue of whether to accept the FCC "lump sum" payment for C-Band upgrades, the August 31 deadline has been extended by the FCC to September 14. Read More

WWJ-AM Celebrates 100 Years On The Air!
This week, Entercom's WWJ-AM (Detroit) celebrated a century of service to Southeast Michigan. It was August 20, 1920 when experimental station 8MK began broadcasting and has continued to broadcast news, information, sports and entertainment each day since. Not only was WWJ Detroit's first radio station, it was the first commercial broadcaster in the country. Read More

WKHQ's Robby and Rochelle Host 100th Episode of Morning Show
This past Tuesday (8/18), Robby and Rochelle (Robby Bridges and Rochelle Gagnon) hosted their 100th episode of the The 106 KHQ Morning Show on MacDonald Garber Broadcasting's heritage Adult Top 40 WKHQ-FM (Traverse City). The duo presented highlights of their favorite moments on the show so far and featured some surprises and special guests calling in. Read More

TCF Bank Spartan Media Network Set to Begin Broadcasting This Month
Michigan State Athletics and Fox Sports College Properties announced today a new partnership with TCF Bank to rebrand the statewide Spartan Sports Network as the TCF Bank Spartan Media Network. In addition, long-term extensions were announced with the three flagship stations that anchor the network: Detroit's WJR 760-AM, Lansing's WVFN 730/WJIM 1240-AM and 94.9 WMMQ-FM, and new to the TCF Bank Spartan Media Network, WBFX 101.3/WMAX 96.1-FM in Grand Rapids. Read More

Flint City Bucks Games to Air Sundays on WBSF
The 2019 USL2 National Champion Flint City Bucks will have their games televised live on Cunningham Broadasting's WBSF-TV (Flint). The first live telecast for the soccer team will be Sunday, August 23 from 12 to 2 p.m. when they host Midwest United FC at Kettering University's Atwood Stadium in Flint. Read More
