A PRAYER FOR DECEMBER
BY KATIE HIGGINS, ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT OF MISSION
Christ-with-us and who-is-to-come,
Make of us a manger,
ready to receive You in unexpected places and people.
Fill our hearts with the gifts of peace and joy,
humility and patience, love and compassion,
so that we may welcome You fully into our lives
and share the good news of Your coming among us.
Amen.

STUDENTS TRAVEL TO IGNATIAN FAMILY TEACH-IN FOR JUSTICE, SENIOR CHLOE BECKER SPEAKS TO CROWD OF CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE STUDENTS
November 16-18, eleven students and three faculty/staff members joined over 2,000 students and faculty from Catholic high schools and colleges for the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington, D.C. The Teach-In takes place annually to commemorate the anniversary of the murder of six Jesuits and their companions in El Salvador in November 1989. Chloe Becker '20 was one of the featured speakers from the main stage during the weekend, where she spoke about the Agape Mural that she painted last spring as a vehicle to work toward racial justice in the church and the world. On Monday, the group had the opportunity to lobby their representatives on Capitol Hill about environmental justice and immigration reform. Click here to watch Chloe's address at the Teach-In!
9th-grade Theologians have explored how humans use worldly images to begin to understand the beautiful mystery of God. Molly '23 wrote a prayer in which God is described as an artist. First-year students are also delving into the different literary genres in Scripture and the meaning of Salvation History.
Kathleen Ryan, MS ’95, Senior Research Specialist at Johns Hopkins University, and Nadia Ayat, PhD ’09 (pictured above), Biomedical Engineer and Professor at Case Western Reserve University, were the first of many alumnae presenters who are part of this year’s
Learn at Lunch Series.
Students and faculty volunteered at St. Angela Merici's STEAM Family Night, where they helped students make keychains and stickers with Magnificat's 3D printer and Cricut machine. They also showed students how to create "dirt babies" with grass seed. Thank you, St. Angela's, for inviting us to this fun event!
HUMBLE HANDS ADVENT GIVING PROJECT WILL BENEFIT 12 PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS IN NEED
Humble Hands is a school-wide effort that takes place every Advent at Magnificat to help meet basic needs of our partner organizations through cash and in-kind donations. This year, representatives from several of the organizations visited Magnificat to help students learn more about their work. Pictured to the right, Molly Rehak '05 speaks with students about her work with Catholic Charities Immigrant and Refugee Services.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITY: BOOKS@WORK
The program Books@Work uses text such as a short story as a springboard for conversation on meaningful and thought-provoking topics. In a Books@Work group setting, diverse perspectives are encouraged and welcomed as the group revisits paradigms and finds common ground while developing mutual respect. We hope you will join us as we work to further live out our Mission with this new initiative! Click here for details about this and other parent engagement opportunities.
MOTHERS' & FATHERS' CLUBS SERVICE EVENTS
Last month, our Mothers' & Fathers' Clubs each hosted service opportunities for parents to come together with their daughters. The Mothers' Club assembled personal care packages to donate to the Domestic Violence Shelter, and the Fathers' Club cleared the woods in our back yard for what will eventually become the pathway for a spiritual nature walk. Thank you to all the parents and students who volunteered their time!
On February 20, 2020, the Magnificat Community will be hosting its first-ever Magnificat Day of Giving.
