Dear Southern Door Community,
Summer has finally arrived, and it is hard to believe that the Fourth of July is already this coming week. As we enter July, here is an update on our plan to reopen school September 1.
We remain committed to a quality education that blends common sense, reasonable health and safety measures, and respects family needs. This week the Department of Public Instruction issued guidelines for the reopening of schools this fall. I need to remind everyone, that they are not requirements or rules, but guidelines for consideration by schools.
We believe that a quality education of our students is best accomplished with in-person instruction, five days a week, for academic as well as the mental health needs of our students. We also know that during this pandemic, we need to offer remote learning for those students who have a health condition or immediate family member with a health condition, as well as for any family who is not comfortable returning their child(ren) to in-person education at this time.
We meet regularly with other local schools, the hospital, the health department, and members of our athletic conference. The conversations we have in all of these meetings are helping to inform the district’s decision-making process, as will the feedback from our parent survey.
Just as we demonstrated this spring, the successful reopening of school is going to take the efforts of everyone – students, staff, families, and community. We know that if we all work together, our partnership will create a reopening that is Eagle Strong and Eagle Proud!
Have a wonderful Fourth of July! Have fun and stay safe!
Patti
