New Resources to Help Support Patient Engagement

The NPFE-LAN recently expanded its library of patient engagement resources. The resources were developed by NPFE-LAN SMEs, Network Patient Advisory members, and Network staff members.
·      My Plan, My Care

We invite you to review these resources and use them as part of your community initiatives to provide education and awareness about living with kidney disease. For additional ESRD NCC Patient resources, go to www.esrdncc.org/en/patients. Click on the For New Dialysis Patients button.
ESRD NCC on YouTube

Are you looking for another avenue to reach patients and families? Tell them about the ESRD NCC YouTube Channel page.

The ESRD NCC educational YouTube videos touch on a wide variety of kidney disease-related topics, including infection prevention, home dialysis options, and the kidney transplant process. Patients and healthcare professionals also can watch or listen to previous COVID-19 webinar events. Topics include transitioning patients to a home dialysis treatment during COVID-19, maintaining emotional balance in an unbalancing time, choosing a kidney transplant during COVID-19, and many more.

The ESRD NCC YouTube channel is a great environment in which patients and healthcare professionals alike can discover, watch, and share educational videos. We are excited to make these educational videos available to the kidney community on YouTube and will continue to expand our offerings.

February 1–28, American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. February is a great time for people to commit to a healthy lifestyle and make small changes that can lead to a lifetime of heart health. Spread the word about strategies for preventing heart disease and living heart healthy lives. For more information, visit www.cdc.gov/heartdisease/american_heart_month.htm.

February 1–28, Low Vision Awareness Month
Low vision affects millions of Americans, including many older adults. Low vision can make it hard to do things like reading, shopping, cooking, or writing. Learning about the causes and risk factors related to low vision and scheduling a screening for yourself or a loved one is the key to protecting your sight as you age. For more information, visit www.lighthouseguild.org/vision-health/low-vision-awareness-month/.

February 5, National Wear Red Day
National Wear Red Day, on the first Friday in February, is an annual campaign to raise awareness about heart disease in women. Heart disease and stroke kill 1 in 3 women. These diseases are 80 percent preventable according to the American Heart Association. Learn more about how you can support National Wear Red Day by visiting ww.goredforwomen.org

February 14, National Donor Day
National Donor Day is celebrated every February 14, on Valentine’s Day, and is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of organ, eye, tissue, blood, bone marrow, and platelet donation. National Donor Day is also an opportunity to recognize those who have given the gift of donation, have benefitted from a donation, are currently waiting for a life-saving donation, or did not receive an organ in time. Learn more at www.donatelife.net/celebrations/national-donor-day.

February 28, Rare Disease Day
