ediiReminder - Share your Thoughts on EDII

Our FAS EDII Committee would like to hear back from you! Please participate in our ThoughtExchange by the end of the day tomorrow, June 18, to suggest actions that we can take to improve EDII in our Faculty. Our Committee will begin analyzing results of the ThoughtExchange on June 19, and will report back to our community as soon as possible.

The murder of George Floyd (Minneapolis), and the deaths of Regis Korchinski-Paquet (Toronto) and Breonna Taylor (Louisville), and the protest and violent unrest that has erupted over the past week, highlights the significance of the work of the Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigeneity Implementation (EDII) Committee and the importance of engaging all members of our Faculty in responding to the continuing issues faced by our community members.

The FAS EDII Committee stands in support of Black staff, students, and faculty, and community at large. We strongly condemn anti-Black violence and systematic racism against the Black community. We reaffirm our commitment to anti-racism around the world and at home here at Queen's University. This anti-racist work is crucial at this pivotal moment in time.

Please see our Committee's recent statement of solidarity and support to the members of our Queen's community who have had their inequities amplified as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and participate in our ThoughtExchange to suggest strategic areas of action that we can take to support and improve EDII in our Faculty at  Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigeneity (EDII) Implementation Committee Statement.

incompleteReminder - Incomplete Grades from Fall 2019 and Winter 2020

If a course instructor gave a student an incomplete grade in Fall 2019 or Winter 2020, the grade will remain incomplete (IN) until 15 September 2020 unless a change of grade is submitted sooner. The grade will lapse to an F on 15 September if the outstanding work has not been submitted, graded, and the grade change processed by that time. Instructors, please ensure that students with incomplete grades are aware of the deadline you have set for outstanding course work.

As students will not be returning to campus in September, please consider alternative ways to assess students' performance in the course, other than a deferred final exam. Options include alternative forms of assessment that can be submitted through OnQ, or unproctored quizzes in OnQ. If a deferred exam is the only option for completion of course work, please contact Arts and Science Online at [email protected] as soon as possible to make arrangements for online proctoring of the exam.

Arts and Science online is providing a series of workshops for instructors on remote teaching. A recording of the recent workshop on assessment will be made available, and a specific workshop on alternatives to final exams will be held in July-August. You can find details of the workshops at https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/remote-teaching
