How Does Assisted Living Differ from Other Levels of Care?

“A lot of people, particularly older people, think that assisted living facilities and nursing homes are the same thing,” says Tracy Deal, Executive Director of Azpira at Windermere Assisted Living and Memory Support community. “Obviously, that’s not the case – nursing homes, or skilled nursing facilities, are for individuals who need long-term care or medical care that requires physician assistance. Assisted living, on the other hand, is for older adults who need some help with activities of daily life, but can otherwise continue to live a healthy, happy and independent lifestyle.”

Still, the difference between senior living options can be confusing. Click here to learn some of the specific ways that assisted living is different from other senior community options.

Fall is a Fine Time
for a Senior Living Move
Older adults who are ready to embrace the benefits of senior living may be wondering, with the holidays on the horizon and the pandemic in flux, if it is the right time to move.

Even when a move to assisted living make sense and may be necessary for a senior’s wellbeing, some families are taking a wait-and-see approach before the holidays. Waiting, however, isn’t always the best course of action, especially when you consider the many advantages of a pre-holiday, fall move to senior living.
