Masks For Music Ministry Fundraiser
We are selling homemade cloth masks to raise funds to purchase outdoor sound equipment. Thanks to your support, we have raised almost $1,000 and have been able to purchase new microphone cords, two new speakers, and an outdoor soundboard!

Need a new mask during this pandemic time? Try one of ours, carefully made by our Faith Knotters! Each mask has an elastic band so there are no strings to tie. There are sizes for adults and children with some of your favorite colors and patterns - see examples below! Purchase one for everyone in your family to help support a good cause. Please click here to fill out the order form.

Masks will be available for pick up during outdoor worship on August 30 and Rally Sunday, September 13.  The cost of each mask is $5.00. For more information about this fundraiser please contact Pastor Reggie. Thank you!

Connect
Connect News
It is time to register for Connect! Connect is a pre-confirmation class for 4th and 5th graders. Each week we explore scripture stories and make connections to our daily life around themes that relate to kid’s experiences. We are planning for online learning and onsite in-person learning when possible.

Connect Bibles have been ordered for children new to this program, so they will have their own text to use for Connect and Confirmation studies. Please email Pastor Reggie for more details.

Seeking Guides for Connect!

Connect meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-6:45 p.m. Guides will help facilitate small group discussion by sharing highs and lows, prayer, reading scripture together and discussing how it connects to your life, and end class with a closing prayer and blessing. Guides will facilitate groups online and onsite when possible.  Please call or email Pastor Reggie if you are interested in being a Guide.
SPARK News
It is time to register for SPARK! Please contact Pastor Laura for more information.

SPARK lesson: "Bless Your Enemies"

Paul continues to encourage the Romans to live in the freedom of faith, and with joy, honesty, and compassion. Instead of circling the wagons and hiding out until Jesus returns, Paul wants Christians to live publicly and generously, with genuine love for others, both inside and outside the community of the church. By highlighting the centrality of harmony, repaying evil with good, showing humility about your gifts, and living peaceably, the virtues and practices Paul lists are applicable to kids and the many communities they are part of from day to day.
Nursery Nuggets
Hi Nursery Buddies and Parents!

This week we are memorizing Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Now, there is actually a little more to that line. The full Proverbs 3:5 is this:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

We are only working on memorizing part of the verse because it is the root that we can hold onto in our hearts; to trust with all our heart that the Lord is good. With all the verses we are memorizing and all the verses in the Bible, there is always more to be curious about. Isn’t that exciting! That’s one of my favorite things about the Bible. It can also be quicker to remember that we have God in times of need with at least part of the scripture and remember that God is all powerful, all gracious and all loving of us as we keep Him in our hearts and minds.

Here are some more games that can help with this scripture:

  • Word Scramble: Print or write the verse as a word scramble on a piece of paper. For example: usTrt ni eht odrL ihtw lal uroy eahrt, and unscramble the words.

  • Gotcha!: Have mom or dad quote the verse incorrectly, leaving out or changing a key word. Then shout “Gotcha” when you have figured out what was said wrong. To get the job done right, you must then say it the correct way.

Keep using the other games I have given you and have fun with The Word!

Music Notes
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another… be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. (Romans 12)

The great cellist Pablo Casals was asked why, at age 90, he continued to practice diligently for 3-4 hours every day. He replied, “Because I think I’m making progress.” Now that’s humility, and hope! It also shows us the kind of person he was. Being a great musician not only takes a lot of talent, it takes daily, even hourly, perseverance, tenacity, and commitment to your craft. Aristotle said that we are what we continually do; excellence therefore is a habit, not an act. For Casals, being a great musician was a habit; it’s who he was as a person.

In the book of Romans, chapter 12, Paul is calling on the followers of Jesus to practice love, justice, kindness, peacefulness, patience, perseverance, etc. This is not an act; we can all spot a phony or a hypocrite a mile away. These are the habits learned and practiced over a lifetime. In my experience, each day brings a new opportunity to learn and to practice following.

We’ll “sing” about this together on Sunday, on the front lawn, in one of our favorite hymns, ELW #798. In August 2020 – the pandemic, the economy, politics – this song and the words of Paul take on a whole new urgency.

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown? Will you let my name be known?
Will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?
