It happens… it’s just one of those things.

You see them at the grocery store. They sit there all bold and yellow, a beautiful bunch. You take them home and gently place them on your counter with the full intention of enjoying them before “it” happens.

Then, quick as a flash, the brown spots begin to appear. The soft mush sets in and no one in the house is going to touch them with a ten-foot pole, let alone eat them.

What now? Banana bread muffins, silly!

Here’s my family’s favorite recipe, and we hope you will like it too.

One Planet Winter Session

CLASSROOM NEWS

Kindergarten

Ms. Kicza

It was great to be back together in school and outside at school! We enjoyed playing a lot this week, on the playground and in the forest each day.

At forest day Friday we heard the book In the Snow: Who’s Been Here? which has clues to solve which animal has been in the forest. Later we explored a mystery in our own forest. We noticed the size and shape of a hole in the snow, leaves uncovered, and tracks nearby. We came up with questions to help solve it: What animals are active here in winter and what size are the animals? We will continue exploring it next week in the forest.

First Grade

There have been many transitions in the last few weeks, but hopefully, we are on a roll now!

On Monday we read a book about New Year’s Resolutions and painted a mural of things that they look forward to this year. I will include a photo next week! While “getting rid of masks” came up once or twice, it was not the main topic of conversation, which was really nice!

Second Grade

Second graders had a great first week back from break and virtual learning! We started a new writing unit, continued to talk about books, learned a new math game, and played a lot of fun cooperative games this week. Read more about our week in our newsletter.

We will be writing about a memory next Thursday. Please send in or email a picture of a memorable moment by Thursday morning. It would be helpful if your child picks out the photo as they will be using it for writing inspiration.

Third Grade

The third graders worked very hard last week while we had a whole virtual learning experience together. So many students handled the complexities of navigating the Google Classroom; I am very happy we spent most of the fall prepping for this inevitability.

Thank you parents, guardians, grandparents, and all who made the week successful; I am most thankful for the students and how hard they all worked. I was super happy to have them all back this week!

Fourth Grade

The 4th grade classroom has had a great week back! We took part in our third virtual trip to the Hood Museum and learned about the artists Lori Nix and Kathleen Gerber, who create miniature architectural models and then use those models to create beautifully detailed photographs of worlds that seem both realistic and imaginary at the same time. The students then had the opportunity to create a composition like this of their own.
