"Robert's reimagining of these well-known biblical stories is nothing short of masterful. The stories are as bright and fantastical as they are dark and powerful. There is a profound humanness in these stories that invite you to reconsider your own place in a world fraught by groans of anguish and songs of hope."
--Michael Vazquez

"Essential reading for all Americans,
Red State Christians
is pure revelation. Denker's empathetic ear combines with dogged reporting to reveal Trumpism's genesis and the the nature of its stronghold in Red State America."

"Too often, we consign divine blessings to moments we ourselves deem "holy enough."
Ordinary Blessings
embodies the good news of God's full presence no matter when or where we may be, offering space for the spectrum of emotions to be embraced by unconditional love and the promise of goodness to come."

"With these beautifully crafted narratives, which are both spiritual and deeply visceral, Patrick Cabello Hansel creates a powerful litany exploring the limits and demands of faith and the struggle of bearing witness to the lives of the undocumented, disappeared, and marginalized; of all those on the run from poverty and war. In these poems the unseen and the dead step forwards, take back their voices and their names, and find a place to sing."
--Jude Nutter

"As a new pastor and parent, I could not put this book down! Justin Lind-Ayres's
Is That Poop on My Arm?

is a much-needed, nuanced, and timely history and accouting of the generative power of female community organizers and the effects of multiplicities of power, effectiveness, and justice that happen when empowered women leaders become powerful community organizers."

It's been a while since I enjoyed a book so much! Great 'who done it' story line, wrapped in a 'Lake Wobegon' setting in Minnesota. Great insights in Pastor Brian's view of God and beyond. A belief system I totally relate to. Cheers to the author for bringing so many amazing facets of life together in this story."

Central Lutheran celebrates its 100th anniversary
|
As a synod, we are whole when we celebrate together. So as we approach the end of the year, we celebrate with churches that had milestone anniversaries in 2019!
For the past 100 years, Central Lutheran has cared for its community. The church prioritizes reaching out to those in need, like people who experience homelessness, those who are hungry, and even people who need medical assistance. In doing so, it participates with programs like Emergency Rental Assistance, an advocacy group called Street Voices of Change, and the Augsburg Central Health Commons. The church itself boasts both a 47-bell Paccard carillon and a 108-rank Casavant Freres pipe organ. Although the sanctuary was completed in 1928, in 2018, Central added on a “mission-forward companion building that is open, community centered, and eco-friendly," notes Central’s Director of Communications, Sara Masters.
Central’s celebration of their anniversary began in 2018 with an Oktoberfest kickoff and Building Dedication with Bishop Ann Svennungsen. Since then, their celebration has also included inviting guest preachers to the church, hosting multiple Anniversary Banquets, and even producing 100
th
Anniversary apparel for sale. In February, the congregation hosted memorial event called
Central Reminisces,
a mix of narration and historic audio and visuals. To watch this event, visit

Stay tuned for our celebration with the following churches: Bethlehem and Spirit of Christ.
Last week we recognized Our Saviour's for its 150th anniversary; the week before, Tapestry for its fifth anniversary; the week before, Westwood Lutheran for its 75th anniversary.

Lutheran World Federation offers daily Advent hymn from Lutheran traditions around the world
|
In December 2019, for the second year in a row, Lutheran World Federation member churches are sharing hymns to show how the communion of churches prepares for Christ’s coming into this world. This season can be used to reflect on and celebrate the diversity, uniqueness, and oneness of God’s gifts to us. From the first Sunday of Advent on December 1 until Christmas Eve, a different Lutheran communion will share an Advent hymn popular in its context.
