#AIARoc365InstagramInitiative

Over the past two years, AIA Rochester has focused on highlighting the work of our members via our Instagram account @aiaroc. AIA Rochester is looking forward to a new year and a new round of project photos to share with our (760+!) Instagram followers.

Last year’s #AIARoc365InstagramInitiative focus on project details has received some very positive feedback. Therefore, we continue our ask for a closeup of a project detail as well as a photo of the project showing the detail in context. (Examples of this can be
seen on our Insta.)

Additionally, we’d like to share some projects that are on the boards and under construction. We welcome construction photos as well as sketches and renderings showing the design process this year. If you have construction photos plus a photo of the finished project, please include both for a sort of before and after.
With every photo pair, please include a short description to share with our followers.

#AIARoc365InstagramInitiative Requirements:
·      Two images - one showing a close up, specific detail of the project and then a second picture of the whole
image. (JPEG if possible or PNG/TIFF, but no pdf's)
·      OR an image of a project under construction – before and afters welcome!
·      OR a sketch or rendering showing the design process – before and afters welcome!
·      Your Instagram handle if you have one
·      Name of Project
·      Photo credit - who took image(s)
·      Description - 2-3 short bullets that we can include
·      Please submit up to 10 entries at this time

Please email lbhewitt@aiaroc.org with submissions. Click here to see our page, and make sure to follow us!

The Greece Historical Society (GHS) is undertaking a Cultural Resource Survey to document Rochester’s first Black architect, Thomas W. Boyde, Jr., and his work in our region which includes the ornate exterior of what is now Monroe Community Hospital as well as private residences, commercial projects, and buildings for economically disadvantaged communities.
Canstruction 2021

Canstruction® is a unique nonprofit organization that holds annual design-build competitions to build giant sculptures made from canned food.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to hold a physical build this year, but food banks’ needs are more dire than ever. That’s why we have decided to participate in Canstruction’s Virtual Competition! Instead of a physical build, teams will fundraise and construct their structures virtually. READ MORE
2021 Swinging Fore Scholarships
by Nate Rozzi, AIA

Each fall for the past 35 years we have gathered as architects, clients, contractors, suppliers, and volunteers for a few hours of golf, laughs, food & drink at the Swinging Fore Scholarships tournament. Proceeds from the tournament fund the AIA Rochester/Architectural Foundation of Greater Rochester (AFGR) scholarship program and are a key component of our mission to support architectural education.

The Architectural Foundation of Greater Rochester awards scholarships to local students attending or entering architectural studies at NAAB accredited programs. Scholarships are provided in conjunction with AIA Rochester, AIA National, Bergmann, The Family of Myron Starks, AIA, and Women in Architecture. READ MORE
