September is National Preparedness Month
“Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.”

With the wild fires raging and the hurricanes brewing, it’s a good time to remind everyone that September is National Preparedness Month. Check out this site for additional details and what you can do with your family.

Between 2019 and 2020, Mission Central supplied over $1.5 million in resources for disaster relief and recovery. We are incredibly grateful for the cleaning/flood buckets that we have received. Our warehouse remains flush with cleaning buckets at this time. We welcome your financial gifts, material donations, and items for the Mission Central Kits.

Your support allows us to work toward assisting the most vulnerable. Thank you!

"Old Man" Board Challenge

Jim Foster, Board Chair of Mission Central, has challenged any and all Mashers and Dashers to beat him!

He believes he can beat you! If you beat him, he'll donate $5 to support Mission Central. If you beat him, you donate $5 to Mission Central.

  • When you register, send an email to oldmanchallenge@missioncentral.org with your name letting us know that you want to take the challenge.
  • If you’ve already registered, just send an email to oldmanchallenge@missioncentral.org with your name that says you have already registered for the Mash and Dash and you accept the Old Man Board Chair Challenge.

Then, all you need to do is:
  • Map out your event and schedule your time to race.
  • Time your 5K! That’s a 3.1 mile run/walk.
  • Record your time.
  • After I run, my time will be posted and sent out to all competitors.
  • Review your time versus mine.
  • If you beat me, send us an email to oldmanchallenge@missioncentral.org. I will add $5 for everyone that beats me to my donation.
  • If I beat you, send your $5 to Mission Central.
Thanks to the Altoona District for volunteering to host an in person event! Their Mission Central Monster Mash and Dash is scheduled for October 23, 2021 and will begin at 9:00 AM.
Support for Those Impacted by Hurricane Ida

Mission Central sends our love, support and prayers for those that lie in Hurricane Ida's path.

Storms like Hurricane Ida can cause catastrophic storm surges, extreme winds and flash flooding that destroy communities. This combined with the COVID-19 pandemic makes for a devastating situation.

Mission Central participates in long-term recovery efforts, supplying much needed supplies as we work to fulfil our mission of connecting God's resources with human need.

In order to assist with disaster recovery, we are currently collecting the following:

  • Tarps
  • Can Openers - manual
  • Hygiene Items - all sizes
  • Laundry Detergent - all sizes
  • Flashlights
  • Gloves
  • Tissues

Thanks to your support, Mission Central donated $1.5 million in Flood/Cleaning buckets in 2019 and 2020.
Volunteer Positions!

Board of Directors

We are seeking volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors. Each Director serves a three year term, with a maximum service of nine consecutive years. The Board supervises all operations of Mission Central. We meet to review policies and outcomes as well as approve the annual budget and all financial statements.

If you would like to be considered for the Mission Central Board, please send a brief summary of your background, work experience and gifts you would bring to the Board. (A formal resume is not required but would be very helpful.)

Please email Jim Foster at boardchair@missioncentral.org by September 15. THANK YOU in advance.
Nominations Due!

National Philanthropy Day recognition is now accepting nominations for people and groups who have made Central Pennsylvania a better place to live and work through their dedication to philanthropy.

Nominations are due by 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2021.
