We will recognize individuals of multiple generations - as well as projects and/or initiatives - that are furthering “The Big Green Shift.”

Learn from Utility Innovators Focused on Inclusion and Social Justice
Join us at the CHARGE Energy Branding Europe 2021 conference on October 11-13, 2021. The event will unite leaders and change makers from across public and private sectors to shed light on issues facing energy companies and brand leaders to advance the energy transition.  
 
Janine Finnell will moderate the session on "Driving Innovation Through Equity & Representation" on Monday, October 11th at noon ET.  This panel will explore lessons learned in the past 18 months to drive forward the energy transition with new standards of workplace equity and flexibility. For example, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is working to eliminate 100% of greenhouse gas emissions from its electric generation by 2030 via their Zero Carbon Plan while also attracting a highly qualified, diverse workforce.

Topics include European Commission's 2021 "Fit for 55" legal framework to achieve climate goals, Denmark's pioneering role in energy transitions, transatlantic climate and energy cooperation, and preparation for COP26.   • EcoAction Arlington Environmental Forum for candidates in the November Arlington County Board election. Wednesday, October 20th, 7:00-8:30 pm via Zoom.   • Virginia Clinicians for Climate Action (VCCA) and Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC) webinar exploring the connection between mental health and the climate crisis and insight into some of the experiences from Leipzig, Germany on Thursday, October 21 at 12 Noon. Register here.

See highlights on green education degree and certification programs from the University Green Career Paths Panel at the recent Resilient Virginia Conference.

Panelists represented the George Washington University, Virginia Tech, the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation at George Mason University, and John Tyler Community College.
The “World Scientists’ Warning of a Climate Emergency 2021” published in the journal BioScience identified 18 out of 31 planetary vital signs which have hit record-breaking high or low points in recent years. Positive developments were also noted including record-high levels of fossil fuel divestment by cities, and other entities, along with a record low level of fossil fuel subsidies.
