Leaving Valuables in Your Car Invites Burglary of a Motor Vehicle Says Senior Public Safety Officer

Westchase District Public Safety Series - BMV
Don McKinney, vice president of public safety for Westchase District, shares ways to help prevent car burglary in a new video series.

In a COVID-free environment apartment managers and leasing agents would be invited to in-person presentations by Don McKinney, vice president of public safety for Westchase District. With many still continuing to work remotely or by appointment hours only, McKinney has made his presentations on public safety available via YouTube.

The first topic in the accompanying video addresses Burglary of a Motor Vehicle (BMV). According to McKinney, BMVs make up 30 percent of crime in Westchase District. It's a preventable crime, and in McKinney's video he discusses things people can do to prevent BMVs.

Some Like it Hot: Heat Doesn't Deter Crowds or Vendors, New Vendors Join Market

The Westchase District Farmers Market is a hot place to be in both senses of the word. As crowds keep growing, many new vendors are coming on board even in the thick of that triple digit Texas heat - that's when you know it's the height of summer in the Lone Star State.

It's a non factor to farmers market manager John Carey who attests that we don't let the heat keep us away. "C
rops keep growing, chicks keep laying, bees still buzz and make honey, goats need milking, bread knead baking, beans need roasting," said Carey.

Heating up homemade vendor food products is new arrival Comatli. Created in a certified kitchen, Comatli caters to sauce and salsa connoisseurs.
"The heat of all the hot salsas are directly proportional to the type of pepper and not necessarily to the amount of pepper used, or type of cooking process," the company says.
Comatli's gourmet sauces come in 9-ounce jars. Its spicy salsas include Mexican, Tamarind and Red Pepper while its hot salsas feature Habanero, Pineapple and Macha.

Flavors by long-time vendor Chilesquiles are crafted to be mixed in with your favorite ingredients or as a savory accent to dishes. Shop for Signature Red, Homemade Chipotle, Roasted Green and Grill Brava handcrafted, Texas-made sauces in the tradition of Homemade Mexican cuisine. Its salsas and sauces have a devout following of people who enjoy bringing the taste of their favorite Mexican restaurant to their kitchen table at home.

Turning up the heat: Octavio Orosco sells 16-ounce jars of Chilesquiles' spicy goodness.

Westchase District is Celebrating its 25th Anniversary All Year, More Commemorations & Reflections To Come
Because of its modern look and great condition, it's hard to believe that these two iconic features actually predate Westchase District by a decade: the former Ensearch building, now Millennium Tower, looms over construction of Beltway 8 in the '80s. Beltway 8 was significant to the success of the District, increasing mobility and development.
