Third Sunday of Easter

The people who hear Peter's testimony and preaching in our readings from Acts are cut to the heart. The writer of the epistle First Peter instructs believers to love deeply from the heart. And in the gospel for Sunday, the disciples who encounter the risen Christ notice afterward that their hearts were "burning" within them as Jesus reveals the scriptures and then himself to them in the breaking of the bread.

Whether a call to repentance, hope, recognition, or love, people are deeply affected by encounters with the one raised from death to become followers of Jesus' way. They not only turn from their sin and doubt but literally change direction, going back from Emmaus to Jerusalem with renewed courage, faith, and hope. These heart-changing encounters with Jesus fulfill a promise from God for the whole community, from those who have lived a long life to those who are children. [Sundays and Seasons, 2020]

During this time of pandemic exile may your heart be changed and hardened.

Alleluia! Christ is risen. The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia!
Bill+

A prayer for this time from a seminary friend the Rev. Lena Warren:

God, we are a tangled bundle of anxiety, exhaustion, stress, hope, fear, certainty, rage, uncertainty, despair, longing ... We are isolated in our worries over those we love, our sorrows over those we've lost, our frustrations about all we have to do or want to do or cannot do or are forced to do. And to top it off, some of us are sick. Really sick-in more ways than we imagine. God, we're a mess. Thank you for your Spirit that prays with sighs too deep for words, because that's about where we are: a place where words fail. So, hear our sighing, our tears, our trembling hearts and raspy coughs. Hold us in all our tangled bundles. Give healing. Give hope. Give rest. Give calm. Help us to know you're there with us, not just suffering because the creation you love suffers, but also at work creating us anew, walking us through the waters and fire and valley of the shadow of death. *sigh ... * Amen.

Collect for the Third Sunday of Easter:
O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Readings for Sunday:
Acts 2:14a, 36-41 - Receiving God's promise through baptism
Psalm 116:1-4, 12-19 - I will call on the name of the Lord
1 Peter 1:17-23 - Born anew through the living word of God
Luke 24:13-35 - Eating with the risen Christ
Self Care

This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus. Amen.

Scripture makes clear that the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of humans are closely interconnected. As such, the Church acts in the grace of God for the health and wholeness of all. This ministry is based on Jesus' constant witness of concern and care for the sick, the unloved, the broken, and the lost.

As we find ourselves experiencing difficult times, we receive God's grace, expressed sometimes in an experience of healing and sometimes through the strength that comes in the bearing of trials. God's gracious activity of healing is to be seen both as part of the proclaiming of the good news and as an outworking of the presence of the Spirit in the life of the Church.

9 Ways to Practice Self-Care During Difficult Times:
  1. Practice gratitude rather than guilt
  2. Focus on simple things: slowly sip a cup of coffee or tea, look up at the sky to notice the color and clouds, light a candle
  3. Sing or hum a tune you love
  4. Visit an accessible place that soothes you
  5. Breathe in God's love and peace; exhale tension and fear
  6. Be aware of and limit your online or TV news access
  7. Take in the beauty of art, music, poetry
  8. Join in a community group or effort that shares your concerns
  9. Remember the invitation of Jesus to "Come and rest a while" (Mark 6:31)
If you or a loved one is facing illness, death, or another emergency, please contact the church office (603)569-3453 or Pastor Bill pastorbillpetersen@gmail.com so we can pray for your needs and concerns.
Help Needed with Laundry
An All Sainter in Wolfeboro is on immuno-suppressants for an upcoming surgery and cannot go into the laundry mat. They have two to three loads of laundry that needs to be done and could leave them in a bag on their porch so it could be an entirely no touch interaction. If you can help, please contact Pastor Bill. Thank you.
All Saints Summer Fair
In light of our current Covid-19 pandemic and projections on how and when we will be able to resume events in Wolfeboro, the Vestry, on Monday, voted to postpone the All Saints Summer Fair.

The  All Saints Summer Fair Co-chairs have issued this announcement:
The 59th Summer Fair has been rescheduled to July 17, 2021.  The fair will not be held this summer, in order to keep our church members and our local community, our customers, safe,.   We are blessed to typically have a great showing of customers.   Since, we believe that this summer we will continue the need to keep to small gatherings, we feel that for safety we should not move forward with our fair.   Please continue to save items for next summer and think about ways we can continue to improve our fair.

We will all celebrate and have a grand event next summer.
Women's Worship...and Bill

While we are all leaning into how to be church together during this time of pandemic exile, our Women's Worship group held a Holy Experiment of gathering on Zoom this week. Cate McMahon crafts the liturgy of prayers, scripture readings and reflection weekly, please contact her at: catemcmahon@metrocast.net to receive it and consider joining the gathering Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am.

Thank You Deb!!

Happy Administrative Professionals Week!

Loving God, who created us in your image, we give you thanks for Debra, our parish administrator. You empowered the church with the gift of your Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and Deb enables All Saints' Wolfeboro to keep on running smoothly, day in and day out. She often has to work at the last minute to provide the worship bulletins and other special items needed for each Sunday and special events. Like your mother at the wedding of Cana, Deb knows what needs to be done, when, and by whom. She is truly Christ-like in the giving and building up of this parish. We ask you to bless her with refreshing rest when she needs it and with a joy-filled heart at the end of the week when she's pushing to get the bulletins and everything else ready in the midst of phone calls and "drop-ins" who come for a chat. It is in the name of the Risen Lord Jesus we pray, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Creator God, we thank you for all of creation. We ask Your forgiveness where we have failed to be just stewards. And we now ask for Your guidance in restoring the face of the earth. May we learn to live in harmony, safety and just sharing of resources among all so that we achieve the kingdom of God. Amen
FROM THE MUSIC CORNER   by Holly Simons
As the weeks wear on in "pandemic-world", I pray that good music and art are tools God is using to encourage your weary spirits.  Whatever the genre, may our Lord be ministering to you with the sounds of familiar or new music, dance, art,  - the voices, instruments, movements, visuals,  melodies & harmonies that "shore us up" in mysterious ways.   Much (not all !) of the material coming across the internet is truly wonderful.

My own daughter Rachel Simons Dyachenko, whom many of you have met in 2018/19, was inspired to write this song to encourage her own flagging spirit -- and then share it with the internet world.       Check it out on our website:  Rachel's Song

As she and Vitali continue to serve among the poor in Chisinau, Moldova and also care for precious Grace (almost 3 yrs now!), they find ways (along with teammates in their mission) to help purchase and deliver much- needed food to hungry families - who own no cars, and can no longer use public transportation to get the food themselves.   More info on this can be read here: Word Made Flesh

May our Lord Jesus continue to encourage and help each of us stand strong, trust Him with all our tomorrows, and ..... keep singing!
             Soli Deo Gloria!
                         Holly
They Made a Difference!

At our April Vestry Meeting several recognition recommendations were voted on and approved. We give thanks for the blessings of Joanne Crowe and Pam Uthenwoldt for sharing their sewing skills and love of Jesus by making and distributing hundreds of masks for members of All Saints' and the greater community during this time of pandemic.

Connect With God & With Others
"...have you ever found God in church? I never did. I just found a bunch of folks hoping for him to show. Any God I ever felt in church I brought in with me. And I think all the other folks did too. They come to church to share God, not find God." -Alice Walker

The church is where God's people-YOU-are. While we are in exile in our homes, we don't need to go to church to find God, because when we are church together on-line we share God. There are many ways to connect, to see, hear and share God online at All Saints'...

Not sure how to connect via Zoom?
During this time of disconnect due to Covid-19, All Saints' is utilizing Zoom for many gatherings.
From Sunday Virtual Coffee Hour, to Bible Studies, Zoom will allow our congregation to connect live and face-to-face, while following the social guidelines set in place by our government. Here are the steps for participating via computer or telephone:

  1. You will find a link to the event and an I.D. number and password. (Note: The FIRST time you open a Zoom link, it will prompt you to download the app. This is FREE. Please follow the instructions given to install.)
  2. Each Zoom event that you open will ask for the I.D. number and password.
  3. For any video/visual participation, you will need a camera either on your phone, or on your computer. If you do not have one, the invitation email you receive will provide instructions for calling in on your phone.
  4. We encourage participants to mute yourself unless you have an opportunity to speak. Household noises can often times be a distraction to others. If you would like to get your Zoom account set up ahead of time, visit https://zoom.us/.

Troubleshooting:
  1. If you log in and no one else is in the gathering, double check to make sure you have the right date and time; if you do, it's likely that you've clicked/entered the wrong link/address. Each meeting has its own link/address and only works for that gathering. Note: some gatherings use a "wait room" and the host will let you in.
  2. If you get connected but can't seem to connect audio, try using "chat" (link at the bottom of the screen) to ask for help.
  3. If you can only see one person, try clicking on the "speaker view" button on the top and switch it to "gallery view" to see all participants.
  4. If your internet connection fails and you get knocked off, simply join back in. It happens.
  5. If you're stuck, contact the event host/leader.

Thank You for Giving During This Time of Pandemic

Thank you for all who have continued to support the work of All Saints during this time. You may make contributions by mail, using your financial institution's automated check writing service, or secure online giving via  Donate

Creator of all we enjoy, we give you thanks for the countless people you have gathered to do your work as All Saints' Wolfeboro. We thank you for your Holy Spirit inspiring some as they longed for this church, others as they built this church and still others as they lovingly and boldly led this church through times of abundance and times of scarcity. Help us to be bold as we model giving of time and money during this time. Make our generous giving a symbol of both our faith and our gratitude. We pray in the name of your son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
You Make A Difference

Is there an exceptional All Saints' volunteer we should recognize? Please share any recognition recommendations with our Senior Warden Carolyn Sundquist or Pastor Bill to bring to the Vestry for consideration. Who can we give thanks for the blessings they have shared with our congregation?
