Congratulations to Derek Lemanski from Frankenmuth High School!
Principal JoLynn Clark from Frankenmuth High School writes,
"Derek Lemanski teaches Algebra I at Frankenmuth High School, an often dreaded course by students. He began utilizing "flipped instruction" about eight years ago, and his dedication to continually improving and enhancing student learning opportunities in mathematics using this strategy has be incredibly beneficial during these COVID years as his instruction isn't lost when students are out of school for illness or quarantine and/or when we have had to provide remote learning. Additionally, parents have commented on their appreciation of this format as it allows them to watch and learn with their child and assist them, which isn't as possible for everyone in a traditional format where the input/lecture/instruction happens in the classroom during the day. Having that input piece recorded and serve as the "homework" with explanation and clarification happening during class time provides exceptional access to learning opportunities. Mr. Lemanski's results speak for themselves with FHS' freshmen achieving consistently proficiency ratings on the PSAT9 and building a solid foundation for their understanding of algebra to carry them through high school and the subsequent P/SAT assessments in sophomore and junior year. Frankenmuth High School is proud and blessed to have such a dedicated and innovative instructor on our staff."
Thank you, Derek, for the example you set for Saginaw county educators!
