AHAI TO HOLD AFFILIATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE VIRTUALLY
|
On Saturday, May 30, AHAI held the legally required Annual Meeting portion of the usual AHAI Affiliate Leadership Conference. Due to the current pandemic, the Annual Meeting was conducted by virtual webinar to elect board members and pass By-Law changes.
The membership education segment of the AHAI Affiliate Leadership Conference where breakout sessions are held to listen to our Affiliate leadership and disseminate information will be moved to a virtual format as well to comply with the Restore Illinois guidelines that are in place. These breakout sessions are typically interactive and well attended. Therefore, to insure that those who wish to participate are able to attend any or all of the sessions, we will hold them over two days beginning on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 at 8:30 am. Each day will consist of four (4) 55-minute breakout sessions back-to-back until 12:30 pm.
AHAI is diligently working on the schedule for these breakout sessions; the topics will be: High School Hockey, Youth Hockey/Communications (including Tier I, Tier II and Tier III), Girls Hockey, Screening/Safesport, Hockey Directors' Roundtable, Club Administration, Officiating, and Return to Play in Phase 4 of Restore Illinois. Each session will have its own Zoom meeting ID so that Affiliate leadership are able to attend all sessions if they wish. The Zoom meeting schedule will be published soon.

Attention all High School Combined Programs: Combined Applications for Fall 2020-2021 Due June 30
By Jack Weinberg, AHAI H.S. Committee Chair - The application for combined High School organizations is now available on the AHAI Webtool. June 30th is the deadline for filing Combined Applications for the Fall 2020-2021 season. Applications are filed electronically by each organization's registrar using the AHAI Webtool. In addition to completing the application, we need full information for all officers at your club including: name, mailing address, email address and phone number. It is critical that the contact information for your organization is current to assure that you are up to date with the latest news regarding High School Affiliates. If you have questions on how to update your contacts or complete your application, contact the AHAI Registrar at [email protected]. If you have other questions for the High School Committee, please email [email protected].

 Tier II Substitute Choice Application Process for 2020-2021 Season
The Tier II substitute choice application process, 10U through 16U/18U will begin on July 17, 2020. All applications will be submitted online. The Tier II Committee will have (3) three appeal hearings for those denied a substitute choice. The dates for the appeals are August 13, August 27, and September 9, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. Location will be announced at a later date.

A STEP aHEAD SET TO LAUNCH 10TH YEAR ON AUGUST 1ST
|
The A Step aHead partners are excited to announce the 10th year of our program! We are proud of the work that has been done to educate our youth hockey community about sports safety and provide free baseline neurocognitive testing. We look forward to another 10 years of working to keep our athletes safe while they play the game they love.
This year the free baseline testing will be offered from August 1 through November 30, 2020. We will continue to offer the testing at select Athletico clinics. Please click here for additional information. Registration for baseline testing will open soon.

The continued growth and development of USA Hockey would not be possible without the contributions of a network of dedicated volunteer field personnel. These individuals share in USA Hockey's success and accomplishments year after year. Their selfless work and commitment continue to make a difference in the sport of hockey and in the lives of the people who play the game. USA Hockey Annual Congress Focused on Moving Sport Forward
USA Hockey's two-week virtual Annual Congress concluded this past Saturday (June 13) and included more than 60 sessions discussing all areas of USA Hockey, with a focus on safety, returning to rinks, building a more inclusive and welcoming environment and retention of officials.
Among the many highlights was the approval to move forward with cultural competency training and education to further efforts around creating a more welcoming environment throughout the sport.
"We're very excited to take the next steps in our on-going priorities around diversity, equity and inclusion," said
Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey. "Understanding our cultural differences is an important part of helping create a better and more inclusive way forward for our sport."
Kelleher noted that over the next year, comprehensive training and education will take place with USA Hockey staff, board members and other volunteer leaders at the affiliate and district level. In addition, other resources will be provided to those part of USA Hockey, including virtual programming. USA Hockey has partnered with both WMFDP (White Men as Full Diversity Partners) and RISE (Ross Initiative In Sports For Equality) to assist in these efforts.

CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS VIRTUAL ACADEMY
|
 Registration Now Open for the Chicago Blackhawks Virtual Academy!
The Chicago Blackhawks have launched the Blackhawks Virtual Academy to replace their in-person summer camps this year. The pilot program in affiliation with HHD Hockey, will run for 8 weeks beginning July 6 at a cost of $80 per participant.
The on-demand schedule will offer:
- Daily workouts, where participants can choose between two video options based on skill.
- M/W/F: Full body hockey-focused workouts
- T/Th: choose 1 or do all 3 videos focusing on agility, shooting and stickhandling skills
- Morning message from Eddie Olczyk, Jamal Mayers, Kendall Coyne Schofield and others
- Weekly chalk talks and more from Blackhawks alumni, ambassadors or staff members including Eddie Olczyk, Jamal Mayers, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Brian Campbell, Troy Murray and more!
- Theme days will allow campers an opportunity to interact through social media and have an opportunity to win prizes.
- Open to all ages and skill levels

AHAI Coaching Webinar: On-Ice/Off-Ice Practice Plans for Phase 3 of Restore Illinois
Hockey is back in Illinois! Since the rinks are now able to offer limited hockey training during Phase 3 of Restore Illinois, AHAI wanted to offer some assistance on what on-ice and off-ice training could look like and how to plan.
This webinar will feature USA Hockey ADM Regional Manager, Dan Jablonic and Illinois Coach-in-Chief, Jim Clare. Dan and Jim will host an interactive session for coaches and hockey directors to discuss on-ice/off-ice practice plans during these difficult times. AHAI will stream this coaching webinar live on our

USA Hockey Announces Virtual Training for Coaching Education Program
USA Hockey announced today that it will conduct its Level 1-4 coaching certification clinics virtually until it is deemed safe to host large group gatherings. In addition, a new temporary card is being introduced as a flexible option for coaches to maintain their certification if they are unable to attend virtual coaching clinics due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
