A Message to Our Community from
City Manager Adam McGill

Dear Novato Community,

As a community we emphasize pride for our residents and community partners on a regular basis. I would like to share how #NovatoProud I am of our community's response to the murder of George Floyd, as those of you who attended Novato's demonstrations have shown the world that a community can come together in peaceful protest and stand alongside our police department to demand action and change. I share the outrage of all who are honoring Mr. Floyd with peaceful protests and am committed to protecting those who lawfully protest as well as our greater Novato community.

As a Novato resident, who calls this community home and chose to raise a family here, I want to assure you that Novato remains a safe community. I understand that emotions are high, and although Novato's protests have been peaceful, some community members may still experience fear caused by the violence that has impacted cities across the Bay Area and our Nation. Chief McCaffrey and I are working closely to monitor any potential threats that could impact Novato, and we are confident that no such threats exist. We are aware that additional protests may occur in Novato over the next few days, and there is no information to indicate that these demonstrations will be anything but lawful and peaceful protests.

I would like to encourage all of us to take this time to listen and learn from the message being shared by those who are respectfully seeking justice. Our similarities outweigh our differences. We know we aren't perfect. We know policing, even good policing won't resolve all of society's systemic issues but let's challenge ourselves to be stronger - together. As your City Manager and former Chief of Police, I hear you and am committed to doing more to make Novato a more inclusive and just community.

A Community Message from Our Mayor and City Council
It has been a long 10 weeks of seemingly one crisis after another. The Council and I are sad to see what's happening across the Bay Area, as well as throughout our Country. Of course, at the center of this we are grieving: our hearts are heavy and we join the community and George Floyd's family in amplifying his memory and ensuring justice is brought forward after his cruel death.

We understand that our duty as leaders means leading our community in a just and equitable way. We cannot ignore nor deny the injustice and discrimination people of color in our communities have suffered and continue to suffer-as leaders we recognize that we can, and must, do more.

Thank you Novato community members for implementing a successful, safe and peaceful protest in Downtown Novato on June 4. #StrongerTogether

Helpful Guidance for Wearing Face Coverings

Stay Healthy Novato
The best way to reduce the risk of becoming infected with a respiratory virus, whether the flu or coronavirus, is to practice good hygiene:
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or crook of your elbow (not your hands). If you use a tissue, throw it away and wash your hands afterward.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
