International One Health for One Planet Education Initiative
Organizational Meetings
Purpose of this message….

Thank you for your interest in One Health Education. If you have not been able to follow recent developments, please see the One Health Education Task Force (OHETF) cal l ( https://conta.cc/2Y3BobM ) inviting individuals and organisations to participate in an expanded
‘International One Health for One Planet Education Initiative’ (IOHOPEI).

For next steps, please select at least one meeting date/time when you can participate to begin organizing into IOHOPEI Working Groups.

Dear Colleagues:
We are delighted with the response to our call ( https://conta.cc/2Y3BobM ) inviting individuals and organisations to engage in the expanded ‘International One Health for One Planet Education Initiative’ (IOHOPEI). Over 100 replies have been received from over 30 nations across all global regions. Thank you to those of you who have submitted your participant education group preference forms. If you have access to Googledocs, you can view a spreadsheet ( http://bit.ly/2JXQBs6 ) of respondees and work group preferences indicated so far. The information provided to date is already showing a balanced interest across six educational working groups (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Community/Civil Society, Corporate, Government).

The strong response that we received is perhaps indicative of the growing global realisation that our collective future depends on a healthy planet, collaboration, lifelong / lifewide learning and resilience. Three assumptions underpin the thinking behind this project:
  •  Education, formal and informal, young to old, is vital if we are to address the global challenges facing us and future generations.
  • "Education is not only a human right;" it enables the realization of other human rights - reducing poverty, boosting job opportunities and fostering economic prosperity," and is pivotal in terms of ensuring that students "care about the well-being of their friends and families, their communities and the planet" (UNESCO).
  • The objectives of this Initiative are mainly to raise awareness of and engage students in learning pursuits related to strengthening Respect and Care for the Community of Life and ensuring Ecological Integrity (The Earth Charter) - informed by One Health & Well-Being values, principles and practices and the UN-2030 Sustainable Development Vision and Goals (UN-2030 SDGs).

Your Next Needed Actions
1.     Please select at least one of the four dates below to attend an upcoming, introductory, on-line meeting (max one hour each). Meeting times have been staggered to accommodate the various global regions. The purpose of these organizational meetings is to share responses from the IOHOPE I call and workgroup preferences indicated so far, to discuss project aims, proposed organisational arrangements and suggested work plans, and to answer any other queries that may arise. The One Health Commission (OHC) is providing the online meeting links (see below) and hosting these introductory meetings. As working groups emerge, each group will select its leaders (at least two per group) who will in the future drive each group forward, oversee online group meetings (meeting platform provided by the OHC) and record notes for meetings.

You are invited to join any one of these introductory sessions (or more if you like) depending on your availability at the times provided.
