BOARD ACTIONS
2021/22 Consolidated Application
The Consolidated Application (ConApp) is a two-part application and reporting process used to distribute categorical funds from various federal programs to school districts. The Board approved the district’s spring submission of the ConApp to apply for approximately $480,000 in funding for the 2021/22 school year.

Independent Study 
Assembly Bill 130 requires, for the 2021/22 school year only, that school districts offer independent study for students whose health would be put at risk by in-person instruction. To comply with this bill, the Board authorized contracting with the Orange County Department of Education to provide an independent study program for Cypress School District students. 

Professional Development 
The Board authorized contracting for the following staff professional development during the 2021/22 school year:

  • Vector Solutions online special education courses, $2,500
  • Renaissance Learning, Inc. training and coaching on myON Reader, myON News, Freckle, and the Star 360 assessment suite, $30,000
  • WestEd training on the Desired Results Developmental Profile Assessment instrument for preschool and transitional kindergarten teachers, $5,700
  • Orange County Department of Education training on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), $27,000

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
The Board approved contracting with Motivating Systems, LLC for use of their schoolwide PBIS management system, PBIS Rewards, during the 2021/22 school year at a cost of $11,083.50. 

Revised Job Description 
As part of the district’s ongoing position classification review process, job descriptions are reviewed and salaries are compared with similar positions in neighboring elementary school districts. The Board approved revision of the job description for Lead Transportation Worker to add driver trainer duties, change the title to Lead Transportation Trainer/Worker, and increase the salary from range 28 to 29.

Student Interns
The district partners with various institutions of higher education to provide fieldwork experience to their students. The Board approved contracting with California State University, Fullerton over a five-year period to provide supervised experience for their students at no cost to the district. The current placement is for speech-language pathologist internships. 

Computer Equipment Purchase from CDW-G
As allowed under Public Contract Code, the Board approved the use of Irvine Unified School District’s bid for the purchase of technology equipment from CDW-G during the 2021/22 school year. Purchases will not exceed $275,000.

Corporate Avenue Improvements Project
Changes to the original scope of work requested by the district and city led to an increased cost and extension of the timeline for this project. The Board approved an additive change order in the amount of $192,552.62, bringing the total project cost to $2,321,166.12.

Luther and Morris Paving Project
A Notice of Completion was approved for the Luther and Morris paving projects performed by M.P. South, Inc. at a total cost of $424,304.10. 

2021/22 COVID-19 School Safety Plan
The Board adopted the district’s 2021/22 COVID-19 School Safety plan. The document is available on the district website.

Board Compensation for Missed Meeting
Per Board Bylaw 9250, the Board must take action to authorize full compensation for any Board Member who was absent from a meeting. Resolution 21/22-3 was adopted authorizing full compensation for the month of July for Trustee Sandra Lee, who was unable to attend the July 8, 2021, Regular Board Meeting.

Permanent Record Scanning
The Board approved contracting with Raycom Data Technologies, Inc. for digital scanning of the district’s permanent records which will be archived in the Orange County Department of Education’s electronic document management system. The total cost will be based on actual image counts, but will not exceed $76,000.

BOARD DISCUSSION
Review District Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Goals
The Board performed its annual review of the district’s Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Goals and agreed that no changes were required at this time. Updated strategies for meeting the district’s goals in 2021/22 will be presented for Board approval at the September meeting.
