MIW ELECTION TIME!

WE WILL BE VOTING for a renewed MIW leadership at the November meeting. If someone wants to volunteer, or nominate, a willing candidate for President, V.P, Secretary,Treasurer or Roving Board Member, they should contact JENNIE immediately and will be added to the list of candidates. The slate will be announced via special email on Monday, before the meeting. Voting will be at the meeting or you can also email JENNIE your yay or nay beforehand. [Folks, our current people are willing to renew their honors, but are burning out, so, would be grateful for fresh alternates, too.]

ALSO, We will be voting to change the bi-laws, so they reflect meetings to be held only from October through March.

REMINDER: Everyone can start paying 2022 dues (still $55) anytime now and snail mail to Betsy at, 1200 Butterfly Court, Marco Island, FL 34145. Do it NOW before the holidays fry your brain!

PLEASE NOTE CHANGES WITHIN OUR CLUB

MEETINGS -to be changed.
The Board has decided that we will meet officially only in the popular months of OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY, AND MARCH. This does not exclude meetings of our satellite groups like the Critique group that meets independently. Any member is encouraged to head their own cocoon group instead and let us know so we can announce it in the newsletter. In the past we have had Poetry and Stage-play groups, for instance. We could use a group that wants to brainstorm to suggest a calendar of meeting activities or speakers. Please, be creative and keep the club moving forward in small ways all year long. With the use of Zoom, we don't even need in-person gettogethers. While internet meetings are sometimes uncomfortable with large participation, they are perfect for 2-4 cocoon groups.

FARMER'S MARKET OPPORTUNITY CANCELLED
Sadly Cancelled this year. The pandemic took a toll and now Marco Island is in the process of remaking the old Veterans Park venue, which means that this year they will be using the smaller Mackle Park for the Farmer's Market. We had doubts about the usefulness of the smaller set-up but Marco decided for us anyway by rejecting our application. We will work for it again next year and let you know. Hopefully, the venue will be at the new and improved Veterans Park, where more customers can be accommodated.

BEWARE,
APPEALS COURT RULES

Two months ago, a major appeals court again ruled that determining fair use “requires a contextual balancing based upon principles leading to close calls in particular cases.” Translation – no rules exist saying that you are safe to use a certain amount of someone else’s work. Courts look at fair use case-by-case. Be careful!

Melody's best blog recommendation: I’ve read dozens of “how-to-write” books by everyone out there, Janice Hardy has the teaching gift; a knack for making a writing principle simple and clear, providing tons of examples to illustrate her point(s). It’s my go-to when I am trying to understand a concept or need a refresher.
