St. Louis Park Middle School's Weekly News

A Message from the Principal
Yesterday, Governor Walz announced that all school districts in the state would continue distance learning for the remainder of the school year. For St. Louis Park this means all schools will remain physically closed with the last day of distance learning being held on
June 4.

Daily I see our faculty and students continue to get better navigating the distance learning process through the development of common expectations and communication strategies. Students and staff are working to improve their skills in the use of technology as well. This has and will continue to improve the teaching and learning process in each academic course. Because of the world-wide pandemic, this new reality and what we are doing is a work in process that will continue to improve incrementally during this time period.

Because of the decision by Governor Walz, several new things need to be considered regarding our students and your family. For example, here are just a few of the issues that must be resolved before the end of school in June.

  • student medication held by the school for students will need to be dispersed
  • SLP materials in students’ possession may need to be returned, ie. books, instruments, computers, etc.
  • personal items still in student lockers will need to be reclaimed
  • yearbook distribution
  • other

A system is being developed to allow this to happen in an orderly way. The purpose of this email is to let you know the above items along with other issues are being considered. Communication will be forthcoming from the school district in a timely fashion for this to successfully occur.

We sincerely hope that all of you, your friends and loved ones remain safe during this unprecedented time as the world comes together to move past the challenges we currently face.

I am grateful for your support.

Principal
A Message from Superintendent Osei
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Governor Walz announced this afternoon that the distance learning period will continue through the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.
He has also ordered that student instruction not be held on Friday, May 1 and Monday, May 4 to allow teachers to prepare for the remainder of the school year in a distance learning format. Emergency Childcare will still operate on those days.

School Principals, Program Managers, and Teachers are all working through creative ways to reimagine events and celebrations to honor students at the end of the school year. Schools and Programs will share updates about each event as plans are finalized.

Class of 2020 Parents/Guardians - you will receive a separate message this evening from Principal Meyers outlining end-of-year plans for graduating Seniors.

Please know that we are thinking about you and are here to support you and your students in any way we can. We appreciate your continued partnership and support of St. Louis Park Public Schools.

Astein Osei, Superintendent

Registrations by check or cash will be processed and sent out by the Business Office as soon as possible.
All requests for refunds must be made Friday, May 8, 2020. If we do not hear from you by May 8th, we will assume that you wish to donate the value of your participation fee to the School District.
Yearbooks
This year will forever be a part of our story. The highs and lows. The games we won. The ones we lost. Best friends, teachers, classmates, crushes. The playlists. The pride. The people. Most of all, the people. We were here. Together. And in different ways, we all belonged. Someday we’ll look back on the images of the year which are in our yearbook. The moments meant something to us. The pictures will help us remember where we came from, how we felt, and who each of us truly were.

If you have not purchased a yearbook for your child, please click on the link below and order your copy today, before we run out. If you can’t remember if you purchased a yearbook earlier, please call Jostens at 1-877-767-5217 and press #1 for yearbook customer service
