Through no fault of their own, many people who've never had to ask for help before are experiencing food insecurity. While it's hard to ask for help, there are a number of food pantries in Moreno Valley run by people who understand, and the City can help you find them, as Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez explains here .
Drive-thru Coronavirus Testing:
No Symptoms Required
Since we told you last week about the drive-thru coronavirus testing site now open at the Perris Fairgrounds, Riverside County Public Health has removed the requirement that you have Covid-19 symptoms to be tested. The County's testing sites will all now test anyone -- but you still need to call and make an appointment at 1-800-945-6171.

Here's How You Can Help Your Neighbors
in Need of Food
One positive in this coronavirus crisis has been the City's creation of the MoVal Meals program, a pick-up and home-delivery supplemental nutrition service for seniors age 60+ and residents with disabilities. It's been operating at capacity since it began, providing much-needed food for 500 residents each week, and many people have asked how they can help. So a GoFundMeCharity account is now available, and no contribution is too small or too large. You can learn more about MoVal Meals on the City's website at www.moval.org/food .

Coronavirus-related Rent Problems
With so many people out of work or making less money due to coronavirus, paying the rent on time may be a problem. According to the Governor's Executive Order, renters who can document that their inability to pay on time is due to coronavirus are protected from eviction right now. Moreno Valley Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez and the City Council approved a resolution on April 21 forbidding interest, fee or penalties from being charged in such situations, as well. The goal is to get tenants and landlords to communicate and work together so no one ends up on the street and the rent eventually gets paid.

Local Economic Recovery
With all news coverage dedicated to coronavirus, it's easy to miss that the 2020 Census is taking place right now, too. The results will affect the amount of federal funding Moreno Valley will receive for the next 10 years, and when the Covid-19 crisis eventually wanes, the need for federal funding will be greater than ever. As Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez explains in this brief video , that's why all residents should take advantage of the statewide stay-at-home order and complete the Census . It's being taken primarily online at  www.census.gov , but it can also be completed by phone or on paper.

It does NOT include any questions about citizenship or immigration status. And none of the personally identifiable information collected by the Census Bureau may be shared with any other government agency or private-sector entity, such as landlords.
