Here’s how we feel about the 3 most pointed questions we're hearing.
Why do more Democrats matter, if Georgia can overturn their election results?
Georgia’s Republican-controlled legislature and Republican Governor Kemp are guilty of passing this insult to democracy into law. But they have not yet overturned an election result. And if they ever do, they will invite a huge fight, including massive protests, costly boycotts, and legal challenges that could go to the Supreme Court. Second, it is easier to overturn a close election than one that we clearly win. So let’s win by undeniable margins, in too many counties for them to overturn. Third, let’s dare Kemp to try it in 2022, by retiring him when Georgia elects a new governor!
Won’t gerrymandering in swing states give Republicans the House, no matter what?
This is far from inevitable. Back in the 2018 midterms, we needed 23 seats to flip the House. We won 42 seats… almost double that. (The most House seats Democrats had won since Watergate.) And between the Texas abortion ban, Covid-19, racial injustice, and climate change, there are more reasons than ever to vote. If we energize enough new voters, we can absolutely do this again.
There’s no federal voting rights legislation to save us.
Reliable evidence suggests Senator Joe Manchin has been working with many other Democrats on a modified version of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act that he will work hard to pass. We don’t yet know what is in it, or if it will pass. We do know that this would not have happened without the Summer of Direct Action – a massive effort by the national grassroots. So this is not the time to give up.
Cheating is easier than organizing. That will always be true. Republicans are cheating harder and harder because they have to, to win. But when they cheat so hard they betray democracy itself, a funny thing happens: they lose voters.
And when we organize, when we empower people, we win voters. This is the formula for saving our democracy: directly involving more of the demos, the people! Only organizing can do this.
And remember, help is on the way! Demographics are changing in a tectonic shift no Republican can stop. Every day, month, and year, more people of color, women, and young people join the voter rolls. The Voter Participation Center calculates that from 2012 to 2020, this overwhelmingly Democratic-voting coalition has gone from 53.5% to 64% of the voting-eligible population. 2016 was the first time this coalition became the majority of people who voted… just barely. And we lost. But this majority grew in 2020, and we won. And it will only continue growing.
The future is coming. We just have to meet it halfway.
We can’t win every fight at every level of government. But there are certain things we can do that can help save our democracy. Registering Democrats in swing states remains the number one most direct, effective way to win elections and restore the balance of power to the people.
So keep going!!

IF YOU CAN WRITE A NOVEL...YOU CAN WRITE A TEXT!
Field Team 6 hosted a last minute text-banking event — featuring an award-winning group of authors — to register new Democrats in California on Monday 8/30. That was the last day to get it done online before the incredibly dangerous recall attempt on Governor Newsom. FYI, you can still register in person, it's not too late.
We sent out a ton of texts — 43,122 to be precise — to unregistered likely Dems as the clock ran out! Participants made a huge difference in this critical election, and bonus points — they had a blast while text-blasting with these incredible writers:
R.O. Kwon (author of the nationally bestselling The Incendiaries and co-editor of the anthology Kink, a New York Times editor's choice), Ingrid Rojas Contreras (Fruit of the Drunken Tree, a silver medal winner in First Fiction from the California Book Awards, and a New York Times editor's choice), Lauren Markham (educator, writer, reporter and author of the award-winning book The Far Away Brothers), Minh Lê (award-winning author of children’s books — Drawn Together, Lift, and Green Lantern: Legacy), and Preeti Chhibber (speaker, freelancer, and author of Marvel's Avengers Assembly series and A Jedi You Will Be).
Major thanks to these very talented writers for sharing their written word skillz in pursuit of justice in the Golden State! You can still contribute to the costs of this event HERE.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5:
HOW TO USE OUTREACH CIRCLE
You can help Stop the Recall by simply asking your Democratic friends and family how they voted, then checking off their names on the state party list. It's easy, but highly effective as it allows better allocation of scarce resources.
The California Democratic Party (CADEM) has launched a powerful organizing tool called OutreachCircle. Right now, the top priority is making sure we keep Governor Gavin Newsom in office by voting NO on the Recall.
Our very own Jeff Sielaff has trained up on how to use CADEM's relational organizing tool OutreachCircle and, after confirming 90 voters in his own circle are voting NO on the CA recall, he's willing to show you how to do the same! RSVP HERE!
You can log on to the app HERE to check it out. And THIS is a step-by-step guide for how to use it. So harness the power of your personal relationships – get everyone you know to vote NO on question 1 for the California Recall.
Can't make it Sunday? CADEM has their own training Wednesday, September 8, from 5-6p PT. You can RSVP HERE.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8:
SOCIAL MEDIA STORM TO DEFEAT THE CA RECALL
Every Wednesday we hit the web to raise awareness for Field Team 6's efforts to register Democrats and save the world. Recent storms have averaged over 15 million impressions each – incredible! These storms are making a difference and the more who join, the bigger the difference!
In fact the numbers from last week were staggering: we created over 16 million impressions! Wow! That was over 4,000 tweets, over 30k likes/retweets, reaching almost 3 million accounts. Whew. It’s working, folks, we’re getting the word out.
Monday, August 30 was the last day to register online or send a registration in by mail, but Californians can still “conditionally” register and vote at their county elections office so we'll be encouraging unregistered folks to do that as well as urging registered Dems to GOTV! This election is far too important to give anything less than our all.
Storm any time on your own or join our upcoming storm on Wednesday, September 8 at 11a PT on Zoom for some socializing and training to develop mad storming skillz! RSVP HERE. No idea what we're talking about? Show up and learn! Our very own Deb Verla is literally a training professional and will make it fun and easy. And you can always find info on our latest storm as well as cool pre-made posts right HERE.
This week, we'll be focusing on defeating the CA Recall Election, promoting the crucial For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and our upcoming volunteer opportunities!

VOLUNTEER SHOUT-OUT: LAURA SAMPSON
|
|
This week, we’re shouting out Laura Sampson, one of our super-incredible-amazing volunteers. For the past two years, she’s been helping us with a ton of different projects. Like, a ton! Voter registration field drives, data administration, keeping our Mobilize events feed updated, prepping training materials for voter registration volunteers. She literally does it all.
Laura hooked up with Field Team 6 when she heard we were bringing people from CA to AZ, where she now lives, to register voters. She was instantly inspired to join. “After seeing Jason in action, I knew I wanted to be a part of Field Team 6 however I could.”
What got her started on the road to activism? “The 2016 election was a punch in the gut. I figured I could sit around sobbing or find something I could do to make sure the next election turned out better.”
Specifically, healthcare was an issue of major importance to Laura. “My family has healthcare through ACA, so the attempt to dismantle it was personal for me. But connecting with other activists showed me we are stronger together, and we need to show up. Even if it's not personal.”
One of her most bizarre experiences volunteering? “Early in 2017, a group of us stormed our congressman's office and refused to leave until his staff met with us… completely unaware our Rep (Alan Lowenthal – CA-47) was a progressive Democrat who was very accessible, and had monthly community meetings and town halls every recess. We were so OUTRAGED! I laugh every time I think about it. His staff was very kind.” Yep, that’s definitely a memorable one!
When not fighting for democracy, Laura takes ceramics classes and fosters dogs for a dachshund rescue. She even has two of her own. And when she wants to get pumped up for more activism, guess what music she rocks out to. “I listen to smooth jazz when I am working on powerpoints” for Field Team 6. Smoooooth jazz, the secret sauce.
Laura has a few dreams for our political future. “A Democrat as Governor of AZ! A country that puts citizens over corporations and the rich. That we all recognize the systemic racism this country was built on and continues today, and work to eliminate it.”
Laura, we agree and couldn’t be more grateful for all your hard work and dedication to the Field Team 6 family.

HELP FUND TEXTS INTO AZ & TX
Field Team 6 and Activate 22 are partnering to text likely Dems in Arizona and Texas. They've already handwritten 30,000 postcards to folks in these states, and now they want to text the same folks before and after the postcard arrives. That's the super smart multiple "touches" we proved so effective in driving registrations in 2020. Chip in for AZ HERE, and for TX HERE.

LET'S KEEP CA-49 BLUE!
A magical thing happened in CA-49 in 2018, when Democrat Mike Levin was elected to Congress, replacing the loathsome Darrell Issa. Rep. Levin fought for the environment, clean energy and other progressive causes, and ably won reelection in 2020.
But now Congressman Levin's blue district needs protecting! Redistricting (California is losing a House seat, people!) means his seat may be an even harder win in 2022. So we need to protect this new blue stronghold in the upcoming midterms. The best way to do that? Register every Democrat in the district!
We're looking to raise just $622 more to start standing up digital voter registration efforts in the district. That means buying the data of unregistered likely Dems so we can set up phone banks and postcarding campaigns to get them registered. If you have the means to contribute, please do so HERE.
