BEST START GRADUATION and CELEBRATIONS
Best Start Teen Parenting Program - held celebrations for 41 graduating seniors in the Best Start Program (from 9 different high schools).    Graduate Maria Sanchez  said, "The balance between school life, a job and parenting is hard work, but now I know it is worth it. Without this program I would have dropped out of school my junior year." Maria has new goals and will be continuing her education this fall at South Piedmont Community College in their paralegal program.  Of the 41 graduates, 8 of the students proudly received scholarships for continuing education, 15 are attending a 2 year college program and 3 are attending a 4 year program.
Parenting counselor, Samantha McGirt said she is proud of the students and advises them to continually set new goals for moving forward in their lives, not only for themselves but for their children, as well. She also reminds them to always be a positive role model for their little ones.

Best Start - works with adolescent and teen parents within Union County Public Schools. Program counselors teach life skills needed to parent infants and young children, model and reinforce positive parent-child interaction and facilitate regular school attendance and encourage high school graduation.

PATHWAYS TO GRADE LEVEL READING
Alliance for Children received a grant as 1 of 10 local county partnerships throughout the state to participate in NC Pathways to Grade Level Reading for children birth to age eight.

What is NC Pathways to Grade Level Reading?
NC Pathways to Grade Level Reading (Pathways) has a bold vision all North Carolina children, regardless of race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, are reading on grade level by the end of third grade, so that they have the greatest opportunity for life success. CIRCLE OF PARENTS®  HELPS YOUNG MOTHER OF TWINS
Jessica is a single mother of twins with autism. She has been consistently attending Circle of Parents® since learning about the program. She openly shares her fears and challenges of raising children with disabilities and beams with joy when she talks about their progress.  She is eager to gather information or learn how to improve upon services to help her children. 

Jessica has agreed to represent and advocate for special needs parents and children by joining the Union County Local Inter-agency Coordinating Council. (LICC), a community based advisory group made up mostly of direct service providers helping to education families about early intervention services. Circle of Parents® provides a friendly, supportive environment led by parents and other caregivers.  It's a place where anyone in a parenting role can openly discuss the successes and challenges of raising children with special needs.  It's a place where they can find and share support.
