To our Sport for Life champions,

This is a time of inspiration.

After witnessing successful Olympic and Paralympic Games play out this summer, Canada’s quality sport landscape feels full of optimism. Despite the fact we’re living in an age of disruption, organizations from coast to coast are successfully embracing innovation and envisioning a future where more people have access to all the movement opportunities they need to live a healthy and active life.

In this newsletter you can find a story about how the Paralympics could inspire future athletes, links to three upcoming sport conferences, and a Q&A with our new PLAYBuilder partner Table Tennis Canada.
Paralympics inspire next generation of athletes

What does it take to ignite a dream?

For many individuals with disabilities, whether congenital or acquired, the first step towards participation in sport or physical activity is learning that an adapted version of a particular activity exists, and the second is finding an appropriate program or organization to connect with.

In the Long-Term Development for Sport and Physical Activity framework, these are considered pre-stages known as Awareness and First Involvement. And as Canada returns from a successful Paralympic Games, this is a great time to highlight the importance of these pre-stages.

PLAYBuilder Q&A with Table Tennis Canada

Sport for Life checked in with Table Tennis Canada to see how PLAYBuilder implementation is going.

Q: What challenges or needs did you have that led you to look for a solution like PLAYBuilder?

A: We were looking for ways to have readily accessible information for our coaches on the go. Instead of focusing on paper copies and many different manuals, we were trying to migrate to a virtual, cloud-based database or virtual library that could help the coaches to set up their lesson plans.

Conference calls for industry to reignite sport

Registration for the virtual 2021 Petro-CanadaTM Sport Leadership sportif conference is now open, hosted by the The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC).

The theme for the 2021 Petro-Canada Sport Leadership sportif conference is Let’s Reignite Sport. For sport to return better and stronger than before, we must maintain a people-first approach to wellness, apply inclusive practices, and develop sustainable, innovative business strategies. Through a series of engaging keynote presentations and breakout sessions, delegates will be encouraged to celebrate the successes, grieve the hardships, and develop the wisdom needed to continue this inspiring transformation in the face of disruption.
