MAKING AN IMPACT IN OUR COMMUNITY

In fiscal year 2017-2018, First 5 San Joaquin allocated more than $9 million to fund programs for young children. This funding supported services for over 19,000 children, parents and providers.  Since its inception, the results of First  5 San Joaquin's investments has helped to change the landscape of services for children and families in San Joaquin County.  View the last Community Impact Dashboard to learn more about First 5 San Joaquin's investments. 
KEEP HUNGER AWAY WHEN SCHOOL IS OUT

For many children, summer is the hungriest time of the year.  The USDA Summer Meals Program provides kids and teens in low-income areas free meals when school is out. Help spread the word about the Summer Meals program. Text "Food" to 877-877 or visit

SHOW THAT SMILE, CALIFORNIA!

The "Smile, California" campaign was launched to increase members use of Medi-Cal's dental benefit.  Click here for resources and materials to help promote dental care access. And subscribe to the new Smile, California YouTube channel for additional resources.
KIDS & WATER SAFETY

Swimming pools are the most common site for a drowning to occur for children ages 1 to 4, but young children can drown in less than 2 inches (6 centimeters) of water. That means drowning can happen in a sink, toilet bowl, buckets, and inflatable pools.  Learn more about how to keep kids safe this summer. 

EARLY LITERACY MINI-GRANTS

University of the Pacific and its partners in the Beyond Our Gates initiative seek to fuel innovation and engagement through a mini-grant program that will allow organizations to pilot or enhance promising literacy programs. Organizations can apply for mini-grants of either $5,000 or $10,000 to support projects. Click here to learn more. Applications due July 12. 
EXPANSION OF CALFRESH TO SSI/SSP RECIPIENTS 

Effective June 1, 2019, individuals receiving or authorized to receive SSI/SSP became eligible for CalFresh, provided all other eligibility criteria are met.  This change increases access to nutritious food for a new group of people that didn't qualify before.  Click here to learn more.
