Women in Recovery Luncheon
One of our favorite quarterly events are our Women in Recovery meals. They bring diverse women together to share vulnerable stories and inspirational journeys.
We held our first Women in Recovery Luncheon Thursday, July 18 at the Alcove Restaurant and Lounge, which featured a tremendous guest speaker, Jo, who utilizes the services of our partner agency, The Freedom Center.
Gathering in the Garden Room of the Alcove Restaurant Women United members were able to hear inspiring testimonies from women who have battled addiction and fought for recovery.
These Recovery events are extremely important to Women United, as Women in Recovery is a passion area for the organization. Jo shared her extremely personal and moving journey through life and recovery with all of us and we could not be more grateful.
Jo explained the roots of her addiction, the path that led her there, and all of the amazing things that she has been able to accomplish with sobriety. She was thankful to the Freedom Center for helping her in her journey, as well as the Women United funded sober-living activities, which provide an outlet for her to explore other interests.
We also shared the joy of our former Campaign Ambassador, Rachel, who is now serving as an intern at the Freedom Center! These events consistently remind us of the empowering work we do for women in this community!
As in previous years, we will be hosting an activity of stuffing book-bags full of school supplies, which will be distributed to Knox County children in need.
We hope to see you there!
Family & Community Water Station
Ariel Foundation Park recently received an upgrade thanks to the generosity of Women United members!
The Women United Family and Community Watering Station, located at the Schnormeier Event Center, serves as an eco-friendly water fountain, bottle filler, and pet water station.
Funded through a Women United grant allocation in 2018, it provides a healthy hydration option for all families enjoying the park and reduces litter.
Be sure to stop by the event center at your next family outing to Ariel Foundation Park to see some of the amazing things that Women United is contributing to in Knox County!
Summer Safety Extravaganza!
Women United members are always going above and beyond to provide for the needs of women, children and families.
Thanks to your generosity, children in Knox County were able to attend a Summer Safety Extravaganza, coordinated with our partners at the Knox County Health Department.
The extravaganza included food demonstrations with Tanner from OSU Extension SNAP Ed, an activity with the Knox County Park District, and bike safety with local law enforcement, with a free bike helmet provided by Women United!
Zoey McDowell, with her mother Kaley, are seen modeling the beautiful helmets thanks to your very generous contributions!
Thank you Women United for choosing to sponsor the Business Lunch grant. This grant offered Knox County Career Center students the opportunity to learn valuable lessons about proper etiquette during a business lunch.
Student ambassadors attended a business luncheon at The Alcove Restaurant. Connie Rhodebeck was the guest speaker. Ms. Rhodebeck led the students through exercises which demonstrated proper use of silverware to writin
g thank you notes.
The students walked away with new experiences and the confidence to conduct themselves in a business setting.
"This is important to know as I continue my career in the culinary field," said one participating student. "It is important to have experience as the customer so I better understand the expectations."
Refuse to be a Victim Seminar
Women United generously funded a grant in 2018 to provide a training seminar on personal protection.
The "Refuse to be a Victim" and "how to be safe in your everyday living" was held June 27th at the Chamber of Commerce.
Central Ohio Safety Solutions LLC will hold their final event in "how to be safe in your every day living" July 24th and August 27th at the Chamber of Commerce. For Information email [email protected].
Empowering Recovery with Wellness
United Way of Knox County staff visited The Freedom Center in July to check in with the Empowering Recovery with Wellness United Way Investment Program.
We were excited to see the new creative children's corner supported by the Women United's 2018 Recovery Atmosphere grant!
Thank you ladies for helping to make a calm space for kids to enjoy!
