Slow News Day
Yesterday was Inauguration Day, and the most remarkable thing happened: Nothing. No violence, no chaos, no insurrections.
It all seemed so, dare we say it: Normal.
So let’s hope that Normal is the New Normal. Locally, that would mean a more efficient and effective roll-out of Covid vaccines, which would then figure to open up the local economy and further open up indoor dining, all of which would feel – we’ll say it again – Normal.

CCRA Joins with the Center City Coalition Requesting to Discuss Issues with City Officials
|
The Center City Coalition (CCC) represents a group of residents and businesses in the heart of the city. As your civic association, we continue to strive to “preserve, enhance, and celebrate urban living” in Center City West. That includes maintaining the safety and quality of life for our members, residents, and guests. That is why we, along with 22 other area businesses, joined with the CCC and sent a letter to Mayor Kenney and City Council regarding violence, vandalism, and aggressive panhandling.
Please feel free to contact your elected official if you'd like to support this effort.

Request for Comments re 23d & South St. Traffic Proposal
With the opening of the Amazon Hub Locker at 2306 South St., the intersection of 23d and South has become rather dangerous for pedestrians, bicyclists, and automobile passengers. An accident on Jan. 17 left a car flipped over.
CCRA has been asked to endorse the proposal containing two possible solutions that have been drawn up by the Vision Zero Committee of the South of South Neighborhood Association (SOSNA) and the South Street West Business Association (SSBWA).
Details of the solutions can be found here.
The three organizations involved are seeking comments and suggestions from the public.
Please feel free to email your comments to CCRA.

Second Starr ghost kitchen appears at ex-Serpico Site

Following the success of the Korean-inspired ghost kitchen Pete’s Place, Starr Restaurants has opened a second ghost kitchen at its 604 South St location. Called Chicken Scratch, like Pete’s Place it’s a collaboration between Stephen Starr and Peter Serpico. Chicken Scratch cuisine is rotisserie chicken-centric and is served with its specialty “stoplight sauces”.

After a year of anxiety, what can we expect from the Year of the Ox in 2021?
|
As we enter the Chinese New Year, what will the Ox bring? Hopefully, it will be better than 2020, because it was the Year of the Rat. The Chinese New Year begins on February 12.

Girls on the Run Philadelphia is adapting to meet the needs of girls and families across the city. They’re looking for neighbors who would be willing to work with them to host their life-changing program at a park in our neighborhood. Teams of up to 12 girls will meet with trained coaches twice/week for their 8 week Spring season (starting the week of March 15) for in-person or virtual sessions, as allowed/necessary. Their program builds social-emotional life skills through physical activity. If you're interested, email heather.plastaras@girlsontherun.org.
