   Second Sunday After Pentecost
June 23, 2019
Now Meeting at 500 E. Colorado Blvd.
Sunday Worship Service: 11:30 am, Chapel

Our Core Values:
Spiritual Growth. Welcome. Justice-seeking

Rev. Rae Huang preached for us last Sunday reminding us that we share mutually in both our suffering and in our liberation. It was a stirring call to action!

Reflection for Worship . . .

Luke 8:26-39

Our text for Sunday is about a person who is not in his right mind. But it is about so much more than that. He is Legion - indicating that he is code for occupied territory. The United States is also occupied territory - with people in power who are not in their right minds. Let's explore what Jesus did about it - and follow suit!

FOR REFLECTION
"Show me a sane man and I will cure him for you."
  - C.G. Jung (1875-1961) Swiss psychiatrist

"One person's craziness is another person's reality."
-Tim Burton (b.1958) American film director/writer

-Rev. Anne G. Cohen

Also This Sunday

This week's service music will feature Neara Russell's vocals, as well as piano duets with Music Director Connie Washburn.  Hope to see you at 11:30 am!

Her address is 1212 Bresee Ave., Pasadena, CA 91104. RSVP  so she can buy snacks:   [email protected]  or call the church

FATHER'S DAY

We celebrated Father's Day June 16. Our "altar" on Father's Day was a lovely source of stories and inspiration!

A huge THANK YOU...

A huge THANK YOU to all those who came out on June 8th for our belated celebration of our nuptials. Bruno and I were deeply touched by the wonderful turnout and all of the generous gifts. We are truly blessed and extremely grateful to have such supportive and caring people in our lives. We both felt such an abundance of love and appreciation. We are so happy that our beloved church family could celebrate with us and share in our joy. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

Love, Lu & Bruno Nguyen

July 20 - Christmas in July: Aaron Shows, organist
There is so much great Christmas music - why not enjoy it mid-year? Always striving first to connect emotionally with audiences of every age through music, Aaron Shows' performances and compositions often bridge the traditional and modern.

HOLLYWOOD BOWL SUMMER OUTING
Smooth  Summer  Jazz
Sunday, August 18th at 6 p.m.

Please join Membership Ministry this summer at the Bowl for their annual mini-festival dedicated to the smoothest jazz sounds around-featuring The Commodores and Dave Koz & Friends. Tickets are $36 each, with a total of 30 tickets reserved for our group and a deadline of July 1st to turn in any tickets that are unused. Please see Lu Nguyen to secure a spot and pay. As we have done in the past, we will meet before the concert for a potluck dinner and time for fellowship, then head into the Bowl to enjoy the concert. It should be another wonderful evening under the stars. Come and join us!!!

New Bibles to be Dedicated and Placed in our Pews

Due to the extra pews in our new worship space, Nina has purchased new Bibles to fill the extra pews and you are invited to buy a few to dedicate to someone. Please leave a check for Nina in the amount of $20 with the dedication you wish to be included in the front inside of the Bible. We suggest only 1 or 2 persons be listed in each Bible so that each is more personal.
