PARISH NEWS

Ouch-Our Summer Deficit

Summer is always rough on church budgets with so many people on vacation. Right now we have a current deficit over $30,000 and that isn't sustainable. Just like summer weeds, the church deficit can grow rapidly. It's easy to keep up with your pledges, even while out of town, by going to our web site (www.holycomforterchurch.org) and using Pay Pal; at church you can always use the Square Reader in the foyer. And yes, we still take checks and cash!

Our Youth Pilgrimage

Our Youth Group Pilgrimage to Scotland and England is fast approaching!  I am asking for hand-written notes encouragement, prayers and well-wishes that will be read to our pilgrims each day of our trip.  You can give me the notes at church over the next few Sundays or I would be happy to come pick them up.  Many thanks to all of you who have made this Pilgrimage a reality for our Youth!  Peace!

- Tab Carter (706) 833-6458.

More on the Pilgrimage

We are just scant weeks away from our youth pilgrimage to Northern England and Scotland. A special part of the pilgrimage will be going to Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island, pictured below. It is only accessible at low tide and is a one of the "Thin Places" in Celtic Christianity. Take some time to google info on Lindisfarne and you'll discover why this is such a sacred place.

Our pilgrims leave late on the afternoon of July 7 and return July 16.  We will have a special send off for them Sunday July 7. Keep the following in your prayers:   Ashlee Bourque, Meghan Bourque, Natalie Belair, Abby Brooks, Brittney Kezer, Ellie Connolly, Nathan Suggs, Myles Green, Brad Green, Tab Carter, Beth Connolly, Liz Hahn, Darlene Bourque (youth pastor) and Cynthia Taylor, Rector.

The Importance of Youth and Youth Ministry

Some churches have special worship services designated "Youth Sunday". We don't. Why? Because every Sunday is Youth Sunday, as are all the other days that end in "Y". Our youth are involved in all areas of our church because we value their presence and ministry among us now .

For tweens or teens looking to get more involved in church activities Holy Comforter, Youth Group is a great place to start! Comprised of middle and high schoolers in grades 6-12, we meet on Sunday evenings from 5:00-6:45PM (times vary by activity and age group) for snacks, fellowship, games and activities. But most importantly, it's a loving place to learn about deepening faith and navigating the difficult waters of growing up with God as their guide. One of the ways we are doing that this summer is with our first Youth Pilgrimage which will be taking us to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Durham, England and Edinburgh. We also are part of our very active Diocesan Youth Ministry in events such as Happening and New Beginnings.

We are also actively involved in being the hands and feet of Christ in our community through service projects. We are always looking for new people to join in the fun! Contact Darlene Bourque, Youth Minister at [email protected] for more information.

Altar Flowers
Consider a gift of Altar Flowers for our worship service.  You may give the flowers in thanksgiving of a special occasion, to honor someone or in remembrance of a loved one. Contact the church office for flower guidelines.

Book Club Meeting

Announcing a new book club! The book for our summer read is White China: Finding the Divine in the Everyday by Molly Wolf, available through Amazon. On Monday, August 12 at 10am, we meet at the church to discuss the book. Starting in September we will meet at the church every other month on the 2nd Monday at 10am.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Thankful for Vacation Bible School

Dear Holy Comforter Friends,

The children all had a wonderful time at Vacation Bible School and we could feel the Holy Spirit working through us to help us all become the people God wants us to be. Many of our lessons helped the children learn to look for God and His works in their everyday lives. Certainly, our church family at Holy Comforter is one of the greatest of His works and His presence was very clearly felt. Thank you all for your generosity of time, talent, food, prayers and support for our VBS program!  God is present, passionate and powerful---and he is doing amazing things ALL THE TIME, we just have to learn to look for Him.

With Joy,
Ayn Colsh
Director of Children's Ministries
