Lights for Liberty Rally

Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Lights for Liberty rally against deportation camps on July 13! We heard powerful testimonies from State Senator Nancy Skinner, Mayor Jesse ArreguĂn, undocumented students, and local religious leaders. We also made connections with other passionate folks in the crowd. It was good to Be the Church and add our voice.
Roof Replacement &
Sunday Worship Update

We are now at the end of the second week (of six planned weeks) of our roof replacement project. The east side of the new roof over the second-floor offices is already finished. The roofers began this week on the roof over the sanctuary, and a large tarp is spread over the sanctuary to protect our carpet, our moveable pews, altar, piano, etc. (see above pictures).

Early this week, the roofers let us know that they need to keep the tarp spread over the Sanctuary until they are done with that part of the roof. This also makes things easier for Javier in terms of not having to "unwrap" and "re-wrap" the sanctuary each weekend. So, beginning this Sunday, we will hold worship in the Social Hall. We expect to worship in the Social Hall for two or three Sundays (through July, at the very least).

If you've worshiped at ACC for a while, you'll know that we've done this before. You may also know that the Social Hall was our original sanctuary space, so we'll be praying and singing on Sunday in the exact spot where our predecessors prayed and sang seventy years ago! Thanks in advance for your flexibility. Please let Rev. Nate know if you have any questions or concerns ([email protected]).
Theology on Tap
Rev. Nate will be away at the end of this month, so Theology on Tap will be postponed until August. We'll resume on August 23, at The Junket in El Cerrito.
From " It's Complicated: Family"
Rev. Nate's Sermon on  L uke 10:38-42
These days, so many of our families are spread out.
Here among this congregation, I know we have immediate relatives in New York, Michigan, North Carolina... London, Japan, Russia.

And so when we do manage to get everyone, or most everyone, together in one place.... we want it to mean so much!

Did we buy the right food for our vegan nephew...and our old uncle who eats only meat?
Do we have enough games and toys for the grandchildren?
Did we remember the latest jobs everyone has these days... and the names of their boyfriends and girlfriends?

Staff Traveling

Members of the ACC staff will be traveling in the coming weeks.

Shanti Moorjani , Music Director, will be away from July 2 through July 24, visiting Europe. While Choir is on break for the summer, she has arranged for a wonderful group of soloists to perform during worship.

Rev. Nate Klug, Pastor , will be away from July 25 through August 8, visiting family back East. He has arranged for guest worship leaders for the two Sundays he will miss. During his trip, Nate will be available by email (though responses may be delayed) and cell phone in the case of a pastoral emergency.
Summer 2019
Improvements to Our Church
Two summer construction projects are scheduled to enhance our church building and exterior. Read more below, and keep us in prayer during this time of transition!

Roof Replacement Project

The twenty-three-year-old roof over the Sanctuary and Office area will be replaced, due to wind and rain damage. This project emerged as an urgent need after the winter. The replacement will commence July 8, and last approximately 6 weeks.

Concrete Project

Following the roof replacement project, our concrete project will start on August 19. The project will consist of replacing the retaining wall at the north end of the church, and the stairs from the patio down to the east end of the Kensington Nursery School walkway, as well and the patio itself and the wooden deck leading to it from the church Social Hall. This project is expected to last 4-6 weeks.
