2019 NJSPE Awards Dinner & Installation Dinner
It's that time again - the 2019 NJSPE Awards Dinner will take place on Thursday, June 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Mercer Oaks Golf Club. This event is the highlight of the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers's calendar year. It brings together hundreds of our members and their spouses as we celebrate the work we've all done in the past year. The buffet-style dinner includes a carving station and open bar.

Everything You Need to Know About Maintaining Your PE License
Becoming an engineer is a long and difficult process. Getting your New Jersey professional engineering license was just one more step in your career as an engineer. Once you have your license though, the work is not over. You must maintain your license with continuing education courses to provide you with the Professional Development Hours (PDHs) you need to maintain and renew your license.

Annual MATHCOUNTS Golf Outing
On Tuesday, June 25, The NJSPE Education Foundation will hold its annual golf outing to benefit the New Jersey MATHCOUNTS program. For more than 30 years, MATHCOUNTS has provided enriching, extracurricular opportunities to middle school students and free, high-quality resources to educators. Every child is unique, but MATHCOUNTS believes all children are capable of seeing the beauty and joy of math, whether they are currently passionate about math or intimidated by it. The event will be held at Cherry Valley Country Club with a shotgun start at noon. There will be 3 prizes for Low Gross, 3 prizes for Low Calloway, 2 prizes for Nearest to Pin, 2 prizes for Longest Drive and a Putting Contest

There are sponsorship opportunities available and if you prefer, the option of a dinner buffet only is also available.

Once again, Tom Fisher, P.E. has agreed to chair the event this year. Please click here for more details and the registration form.

Blockchain Enables New Power Market
ASME.org

Traditional generating stations that produce baseload power measured in hundreds of megawatts are either closing or struggling, unable to compete with inexpensive power produced by solar, wind, or natural gas-burning plants. To handle these multitude of distributed, small-bore sources, a new smart grid is developing, where small buyers and sellers of electricity may find a marketplace.  READ MORE

Public Safety Should Not Be an Afterthought
nspe.org

NSPE has challenged two automakers and federal regulators over public safety issues in the companies' development of autonomous vehicles. On May 14, NSPE questioned petitions from General Motors and Nuro Inc. that seek exemptions from vehicle safety requirements (such as having a steering wheel, gas and brake pedals, and a gearshift) for the AVs they are developing.  READ MORE

NSPE Teams Up in Licensing Alliance
nspe.org

Recently, NSPE joined with several other organizations representing licensed professions to form the Alliance for Responsible Professional Licensing. The alliance's goal is to aggressively promote the benefits of professional licensing, create a distinction between professions and occupations (and, thus, between professional and occupational licensing), and oppose the prevailing and deeply flawed message that licensing serves no beneficial purpose.  READ MORE

(High) Winds of Change
nspe.org

Extreme weather events tied to climate change are increasing. Some are asking whether the standard of care is changing as well. Floods submerging the Midwest, wildfires scorching California, hurricanes devastating coastal areas and islands. The news of extreme weather disasters seems unending lately. Data verify the increasing nature of these events. The number of disasters with billion-dollar damages has more than doubled recently, according to federal statistics released in February.
