Drive a Senior. Drive a Senior Northwest has been serving seniors in Cedar Park, Leander, and Northwest Austin since 1986.
Direct services are provided by volunteers, but there are many costs associated with keeping over 500 clients and their 8500 rides per year organized! Your donation helps the seniors in your community remain independent by providing free transportation and other support services so they can live in their own homes longer and stay active in their community!

The Church Ladies Lunch Group may have had their very last luncheon on July 8th - unless someone steps up to be the new coordinator. Margaret gave notice last month that she is unable to continue serving, due to her mother's health issues. So if one or more of you wants to lead this fun group, please send an email to ChurchLadiesLunch@LiveOakUU.org . Ironically, we had our best attendance in years at our last luncheon, and a good time was had by all. If a couple of you want to serve as co-leaders, the coordinating tasks could easily be shared. Please let us hear from you soon if you can keep this great tradition going for the ladies of Live Oak.

Join LOUU outreach to the homeless
Live Oak UU members will again serve dinner for clients of the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH) on Tuesday, July 30. Interested in getting involved in this important community outreach? Email organizer Alison Dieter at arch@liveoakuu.org. We need four volunteers every fifth Sunday and Tuesday.
Volunteers meet at the church parking lot at 5:15 p.m. and usually ride downtown together. Or let Alison know if you'd rather meet at ARCH, 500 E. 7th St.. After signing in at the entrance, volunteers go to the pleasant dining room upstairs. You can leave any of your belongings in a nearby office while you get to work. Aprons and gloves are provided. Four people dish up food along a short serving line. The pace is quick but not daunting. The kitchen workers are fun and helpful, and the diners are nice people to greet. You'll be back at the church no later than 8:30 p.m.
It's a great opportunity to help, connect and learn more about the plight of homelessness in our midst.

HELP DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO OUR NEIGHBORS
 Live Oak Church will be distributing food to our neighbors. Please volunteer to help
:
* Friday, July 19th @ 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the Live Oak parking lot. This is when we distribute the food to our neighbors. Volunteers are needed to set up and take down the tables, help with the selection of food, and help carry food to our neighbors cars. You do not need to remain the entire 2 & 1/2 hours. Your help is appreciated!
This partnership with Hill Country Community Ministries is the church's "signature project". It is our opportunity to live our Mission of ENRICHING CONNECTIONS with our neighbors in need. Any questions please contact Donna Durbin at:

An estimated 150 to 200 people participated in the Lights for Liberty March to the Williamson County Court House on Friday evening July 12th. We Unitarian Universalists can be proud because between Live Oak and San Gabriel churches, we were well represented. Live Oak participants read statements from children held in detention facilities. Then at 9pm this gathering joined in solidarity in a moment of silence across the nation. In living our Mission, we Enriched Connection with a nation disturbed by what is happening at our boarder.

This week, Matthias Grandberry and Tim Buckley have completed the first phase of converting ceiling fluorescent lights to LED lights. This is a long range project that will reduce the cost and use of electricity and save on the cost for fluorescent bulbs in the future. There are 191 fluorescent ceiling light fixtures throughout the building and the conversion project is being done one room at a time. So far 77 light fixtures have been converted. This project is being paid for with Large Project funds. Thank you for your support of this important energy saving project.

Come march with us @ Austin PRIDE 8/10/2019
Live Oak UU is marching in the 2019 Austin PRIDE parade to show our support for our LGBTQ friends and family! This years theme is BOOGIE Wonderland! LOUU and the Central Texas UU Congregations will march together in our own parade space. You are encouraged to wear a UU shirt and spice it up with BOOGIE Wonderland or rainbow accessories! The Parade kicks off at 8pm at the Texas State Capitol Building and marches down Congress Ave., turning right on 4th St. through the Warehouse District. We will meet at a time and location to be announced 2 weeks prior to the parade. Please let Tanna Thomas or Karen Santhanam know if you have any questions or concerns!

Faith Development
 Here's what you need to know this week!
Each Sunday during the summer the adults are invited to attend our weekly discussions on the worship topic called 'Musings on the Message.'
Children and youth are exploring cultural cuisine throughout the summer using the curriculum
Books and Cooks. The class will meet in Room 205 for the summer, and children 5th grade and under should be signed out by a family member by noon. Older youth (middle school and up) are encouraged to sign up to help lead a session, or just come and help with the cooking and story time.
Since it is a food-based curriculum, each week when you sign your child in at the table in the Fellowship Hall you will find a list of the ingredients for the day so that you can let the teachers know if there is something your child should not have. We will make sure that our dishes are gluten-free, nut-free, and dairy-free as much as possible to avoid common allergens.
