Debunking Four Myths About FSVP
For some companies participating in food shows in America, the old ways of doing business seem tried and true. But the new realities of the Food Safety Modernization Act require changes in how international exhibitors conduct business. Misinformation about the new regulations still abounds, and myths continue to circulate about Food Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP). Here are four of those myths and the truths that every international exhibitor should know.
Can You Modify Your HACCP Plan to HARPC?
Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Control Plans (HARPC) are necessary for foods that are imported into the United States. With FSMA, the FDA moved from reacting to food-borne illness to an approach based on preventive measures. Many food producers already had Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans in place and are wondering if these plans meet the current requirements. As there are many similarities between HACCP and HARPC, you can modify your HACCP to a HARPC, with knowledge of the changes in what the law now demands.
What Types of FSMA Training Do Your Employees Need?
All seven core rules of the Food Safety Modernization Act require the general training of employees or individuals involved with the manufacturing, processing, packing and holding of food, with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandating specific types of training in some areas. Here’s what you should know about the types of training that the FDA considers compulsory, who should receive that training, and where you can go to secure the education that your company needs in food safety, food hygiene and food defense.
Using Artificial Intelligence in the Food Safety Industry
Our world increasingly implements artificial intelligence across industries, with machine learning applied in many environments from production floors to hotel lobbies. What is artificial intelligence and how does AI work in the food safety industry? Why do we need it? Learn how the latest technology will be deployed including the use of drones, temperature sensors attached to intelligent shipping, and facial recognition. Over time, the acquisition of data will result in increasing the quality of the food that will reach our tables.
