TRAIL PROJECT UPDATES

  • Augustine Cut-Off Trail*: City of Wilmington and New Castle County secured a grant from the Delaware Bicycle Council to fund a planning study for the trail. Delaware Greenways looks forward to partnering on next steps.

  • Brandywine Creek Greenway: DGI is partnering with Brandywine Conservancy to bring a 30-mile conservation corridor along the Brandywine Creek, along with its network of trails, into Delaware, adding 10 miles. This 2-year project fits well within our vision of connecting everyone to where they want to go. Learn More

  • Claymont to Fox Point State Park*: We are working with the Delaware Dept. of Transportation (DelDOT), to get a planning study underway in a step toward adding this pathway to the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail. More to come.

  • 7th Street Peninsula*: City of Wilmington and Wilmington Area and Planning Council (WILMAPCO) are developing a master plan for the Peninsula. At a recent public meeting, we were excited to see that trails were a popular choice for the public when expressing their ideas for the Master Plan for the area. We look forward to lending our expertise in moving those trail projects forward. Learn More

  • Commons Blvd Trail* and Harvey Hanna Trail*: Watch for progress on these trails in our next newsletter.

Concord Pike (Route 202) Corridor Master Plan
ANOTHER one of our advocacy projects is now underway with a public meeting held on July 25th. A Master Plan for the Route 202 Corridor, encompassing an area between the City of Wilmington and the Pennsylvania state line. We thank all of our supporters who attended! Stay tuned for updates as the project moves forward.
DuPont Country Club Development Plan
Delaware Greenways met with the DCC development team to discuss our vision for trails connecting the Country Club to the Brandywine Creek, and Brandywine Creek State Park. We were encouraged by the response and will continue our dialog with them. Stay tuned for more.
Trail Counting in New Castle County

DGI staff worked with DelDOT this summer to install and maintain trail counters on the Northern Delaware Greenway and the Industrial Track Trail portion of the Wilmington-New Castle Trail. Data collected from the counters will be shared in future publications.
New Road Master Plan
Delaware Greenways is supporting the efforts of the Historic Lewes Byway Committee on the New Road Corridor Master Plan. The Master Plan is to identify a vision for New Road in the context of the changing landscape. The New Road corridor is part of the Historic Lewes Byway. The Historic Lewes Byway consists of transportation routes traveling through the Lewes area with special intrinsic scenic, historic, natural, cultural, recreational, or archeological qualities.
