The "dog days of summer" have certainly arrived! Did you know this phrase really has nothing to do with our four legged friends (like Wilson the True Pump shop dog)? Wikipedia says " The dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius (the Dog Star), which Greek and Roman astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck." Not sure about mad dogs and bad luck but the rest of the definition seems to fit!

It's Not Cool to Have a Hot Pond

Most people know the challenges that snow and freezing temperatures can create with a pond and its inhabitants, but not everyone knows about the other weather extreme - heat.

During extended periods of high temperature, pond water can get pretty warm. Once the water temperature rises above 80 degrees Fahrenheit, you may start to notice changes in your pond. Your fish might appear stressed out; gasping for air close to the water's surface, and your plants might be looking a little forlorn.

Product Update

We are currently out of ProFix Algaecide in the 32 oz. size but we are expecting more to arrive around the second week of August. We do have ProFix in the gallon size or Aquascape Algaecide if you need something sooner than that.
