Rabbi's Message

The Eclipse Of Light…

Our country is going through an eclipse of light.  The overwhelming darkness due to recent events in Minnesota has cast a shadow over the nation. The overwhelming reaction to the heinous act against a decent human being has touched all men and women of conscience.

The truth is, evil occurs when we uniformly block out the basic understanding of the concept of God’s will. There is no defense for the evil perpetrated when four peace officers sworn to protect and serve, abandoned their responsibilities. When that happened, the world plunged into an abyss of deep consternation eclipsing the true comprehension and meaning of glory, love and understanding as put forth by our Torah. One week ago, we celebrated Shavuot, the giving of the Torah and Ten Commandments to the Jewish people and the world.

The Torah, our Bible, tells us exactly how to brighten our lives with the light that emanates from Heaven. We accomplish that illumination through practicing goodness, charity, responsibility, acting kindly and being considerate. It is then that the sun shines, the mountains glimmer, the sweet essence of life fills the air.

As I write this, the “Breaking News” on CNN tells us that the four men responsible for George Floyd’s death have been charged and will stand trial.
The sun is shining

Be well everyone. Have patience and stay safe.

We love you. Watch us Friday at 6:00 PM

Shabbat Shalom……

Dear congregants and friends.

High Holidays are approaching as well as membership renewals.

We are planning on holding services in Westwood again, but because of the pandemic, we’re not sure what September is going to look like and we’re concerned about your safety and comfort, so we’re gearing up for virtual services as well just in case we won’t be able to gather together. We sure hope to be able to see your beautiful faces though.

Either way, we need your support.

We will be sending out membership renewals and seat reservation forms during June. Please fill them out and return to us via email, fax or snail mail.

Our services will once again include our outstanding choir, wonderful musical director, readers, joy, spirituality and love that we are used to for our most holy of days. We will keep you updated.

We’re excited. We plan on doing some very special things that we think you’re going to love and will resonate with you.

Please stay safe and healthy and hope to see you this Friday night at 6pm.

Israeli invention turns tap water into antiviral solution
It sounds like magic, but Bar-Ilan University researchers say the environmentally friendly disinfectant may be used daily to kill bacteria and viruses on all kinds of surfaces.

Bacteria and viruses can be killed effectively through a new method that instantly turns ordinary tap water into a powerful, environmentally friendly disinfectant on demand.

The technology was developed by chemists at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan and patented last year by the university’s BIRAD Research and Development Company.

Their novel method involves mixing water with nanometer-shaped electrodes that have unique surface properties. The combination of these compounds creates an effective antibacterial against bacteria, viruses and spores.
Unlike many other disinfectants, such as chlorine bleach, this water-based solution is safe for skin and does not contaminate groundwater, the researchers say.

The antiseptic capability is 100 times more effective than bleach
The technology could be used for a variety of disinfectant products, such as spray aerosols for disinfecting surfaces, appliances, beds, closets and bathrooms; containers for immersing hands, shoes or devices; disinfectant wipes; dry fog air-purifiers and others.

There are many antibacterial disinfectants on the market, but this material is based on water so it is cheaper, three times more effective, seven times less toxic for humans, preserves these capabilities for much longer and covers a large variety of bacteria.
