Educational Opportunities
and Resources

Agriculture Literacy Day Program: This year’s book titled The Cattle Tale, takes students through a day in the life of a Florida beef producer. We invite agriculture industry representatives to reach out to local elementary schools to schedule a reading. This is a great way to teach students where their food comes from. Registration will go live mid-late September.

Virtual Farm Field Trips: We have four field trips planned for this fall and registration will go live in September once all locations have been confirmed. November 2nd we will visit Erickson Farm to learn about their tropical fruit operation. On December 7th we will visit the Seminole Tribe Reservation to learn about their history and beef cattle operation.

New FAITC Resources: FAITC has a new Pre-K ABCs of Agriculture Coloring Book that is available to order. In September, there will be two new school garden resources called Rainbow of Nutrition Planting Guides. These guides give basic growing and nutritional information.

Journey 2050: Journey 2050 is a free, online program on world food sustainability that includes a virtual simulation game. Designed for grades 7th through 12th, the game created by Nutrien, Ltd., provides students with an opportunity to consider the question: “How will we sustainably feed nearly 10 billion people by the year 2050?” To learn more or request a guest speaker, email Jenn Morgenthal.

Discovery Dairy: Heads up, Florida classrooms the Adopt a Cow program is a great way to engage students with a topic you know they’ll love: animals. Your classroom will be paired with a calf from a dairy farm in Florida (Milking R - The Rucks Family). You’ll find out what her name is, when her birthday is, where she lives and how the farmer takes care of her. You will receive photos of the cow, activity sheets for your students, and a suggested lesson that follows Common CORE standards! Registration closes on September 15, 2021.
