Peabody Presents to Albemarle Board of Supervisors

Check out our Peabody students, presenting to the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday to support reducing carbon emissions in our community! Students and local business leaders are lobbying for elected officials to set bold goals for reducing carbon emissions over the next 10 years - a goal of 45 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, which matches the recommendation of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Way to go, Peabody!
Spring Enrichment Registration Open!

Registration is now open for after school Spring Enrichment classes at Peabody. Classes start the week of April 8th. We are asking that registrations be submitted by March 22nd. Thank you!

Charlottesville Cardinals Wheelchair Basketball Game

Peabody School was visited by the Charlottesville Cardinals wheelchair basketball team this week. This was an exciting and eye opening experience for our students. The Cardinals gave us a rundown of their organization, the different rules to wheelchair basketball, and a glimpse into the lives of a few players. Some middle school students were able to share in the experience by playing in a wheelchair basketball game against the Cardinals. The game was full of excitement, made baskets, fun, and some humbled students by the end. We want to give a big thanks to Tom Vandever, Head Coach, for helping organize this event. Please check out the this link, Cville Cardinals , to learn more about the Charlottesville Cardinals. Also check out the inspirational video at the bottom of the home page.

Festival of the Book at Peabody

Middle School

All Middle School Students  attended a special assembly with 2019 Virginia Festival of the Book headliner Carol Anderson . Professor Anderson was a Guggenheim Fellow for Constitutional Studies and is the author of  White Rage , which won the National Book Critics Circle Award, and  We Are Not Yet Equal , a new young readers' book that examines racial inequality in America as seen in Jim Crow, the Great Migration, Brown v. Board of Education, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the elections of President Obama and Donald Trump. She is an amazing speaker who will bring history to life for your students.

Lower School

As part of the Virginia Festival of the Book - and to also celebrate D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) Day - guest authors Miranda and Baptiste Paul shared their book I Am Farmer: Growing an Environmental Movement in Cameroon in two special presentations for our students on Friday.

Peabody students discovered the true story of how environmentalist Farmer Tantoh is transforming the landscape in his home country of Cameroon. When Tantoh Nforba was a child, his fellow students mocked him for his interest in gardening. Today he's an environmental hero, bringing clean water and bountiful gardens to the central African nation of Cameroon. This inspiring story is a great fit for Peabody's green-minded community and we are very proud to have served as a special sponsor of the 2019 Festival of the Book.

The Pauls have advised anyone interested in purchasing I Am Farmer to do so by supporting a local bookstore!
